hands, pulling them from her face. “No, love, I’m dreaming. I’ve dreamt of this very moment for longer than I can remember. I’ve asked you this question a million times, a million ways in my dreams. I probably should’ve taken you on some extravagant date—that’s probably how you dreamed this would happen as a young girl. But I want to do this here, in our home.

“Lani Anne Smith, will you be my wife? Make me the happiest man in the world, and I will work every single day for the rest of my life to keep you happy.”

Tears stream down Lani’s cheeks, but the huge smile on her face belies the truth of her happiness. She throws herself into me, causing us both to go sprawling to the floor. She kisses me a dozen times, each kiss punctuated by the word yes.

I slip the ring I’ve been holding for weeks onto her finger. Unable to keep curiosity at bay, she sits up on top of me so she can admire the ring. “It’s perfect,” she whispers reverently.

“No, beautiful, you’re perfect.”

“I love you, Torin. You make me so happy.”

“Not nearly as happy as you make me.”

Epilogue Torin—Five Months Later

“Lani, beautiful, we are going to be late.”

She looks at me with a pout on her face. I know exactly what she’s going to say. She’s standing in front of our closet in just a pair of tiny panties and a bra looking at the clothes like they’ve offended her.

“Nothing fits,” she says, sounding tearful. “I’m too fat.”

I come up behind her and hug her to me, rubbing a hand over the rounded curve of her baby bump. “You’re not fat, my love. You’re growing my daughter in this beautiful bump.”

She sniffles, then wails. “My clothes don’t fit.”

I shake my head. They told me that hormones were a rollercoaster ride, but I haven’t really appreciated that until now. I reach into the closet and pull out a flowy dress. “Wear this one, wife… you know it’s one of my favorites.”

Lani gives me a tearful smile, grabbing the hanger. “Do you really like this one?”

I nod, but if I’m honest, I love anything she wears because it’s on her body. She could wear a burlap sack, and she’d still be beautiful.

Ten minutes later, she’s dressed and has her hair twisted on top of her head. I can’t help pulling her into my arms and kissing her cherry-flavored lips. “Hey! I just put that lip gloss on!”

“And it’s delicious.” I lick my lips as she smacks me on the arm with the back of her hand, playfully.

“You’re a menace.”

I crush my lips to hers in a searing kiss. She meets my tongue enthusiastically, rubbing her sexy body against mine. One thing about pregnancy hormones is how needy they make her. She’s insatiable.

“We’re going to be late…”

“Margo is setting up. She can handle it, I need you.”

As if I could deny her anything.

An hour later, Lani’s cheeks are flushed a pretty pink, her hair is a mess, her dress is askew, and her lip gloss is no more. She looks even more beautiful all disheveled from our lovemaking than at any other time.

“I love you, beautiful.”

Lani melts into my arms. “I love you most, husband.”
