Daniel

The beat pounded around Daniel, rainbow lights flashing through the shadows of the bar. On the mini-stage up front, a band played—four men, all alphas, broad shoulders and deep voices, and the crowd on the dance floor screamed.

It wasn’t a place you belonged. Not when you were forty and it was your birthday, and you were so deep in heat that you’d almost soaked your pants through with slick.

But Daniel was alone, and that lead singer, the one with shrewd eyes and a leather vest draped over his bare chest, with a sheen of sweat gleaming on his skin... That alpha had been making eyes at Daniel for three whole months. Inviting Daniel closer, inviting him to give himself up, let him taste every inch of Daniel’s skin.

And that mahogany gaze was on him again, raking down his body, lighting up every single one of his nerves.

As though he knew how much Daniel wanted him. Daniel’s throat went dry.

Heath—that was his name. Heath Roland. He was twenty-two. Confident, almost cocky, but so very intense.

Heath had played in the band for five years, and he’d always been the lead singer. And like every other time he sang, the timbre of his voice swept down Daniel’s spine like a lover’s touch.

The Phantom Growls were good. Why they chose to keep playing in a dumpy bar like this...

“Gonna take you home tonight,” Heath growled into his mic, his gaze never once leaving Daniel. “Open you up and make you mine.”

It nearly dropped Daniel’s pants. Never mind that Daniel was old enough to be Heath’s dad.

Daniel tore his eyes away from the stage, his pulse pounding between his legs.

He gulped down a mouthful of his White Russian, focusing on the burn down his throat. The cocktail wasn’t enough to get him drunk, not when he’d been nursing it for the past two hours, waiting for the show to start.

All it had done was take his thoughts off work—the terrible presentation coming up next week, right in front of the faceless big boss of Alpha Foods. The boss who fired more people than he retained, the one who would surely fire Daniel, too, when he saw how old Daniel was.

Employee insurance cost more as people aged, after all. And Daniel had already been fired once, just three months ago, in a humiliating mess that still made his skin burn.

And now that anxious lump was back in his stomach.

He groaned, taking a larger gulp of his drink. Daniel turned his eyes back to the stage, wondering if Heath knew that Daniel had looked him up on the internet—just briefly, enough to find out his name. And look for any errant dick pics. There were none, but Daniel had been hoping.

Daniel glanced back, only to find Heath looking straight at him. His cock jerked.

Why does he keep watching me? Daniel looked at his drink, and back. And Heath slid his large fingers down the hem of his vest, his voice a low rumble, his hips rocking up. Like how he would fuck into Daniel, a swift, hard thrust. Daniel’s insides grew hot.

Gods, Heath would be good in bed. Daniel had brought a condom today. He’d been hoping... well. That maybe Heath would make good on his promise.

The song ended. Heath stood back on stage with the rest of his band, and they bowed for the audience. Had it already been a full set?

The crowd cheered for more. Heath’s gaze stroked down Daniel’s side, sending tingles down his body.

It can’t be real. He just wants another notch on his belt.

But that was a lot better than anything Daniel had had in months. His skin craved touch; his body needed an alpha pressing him down into a mattress, and he needed to remember what it felt like, being opened with a thick, solid cock. He needed to know how it felt to take Heath’s knot.

Daniel looked back at his drink. He thought about finishing the rest of it for some liquid courage. He’d run a few pickup lines through his head, but the best he could come up with was, Would you like to tour my bed tonight?

What if Heath already had other plans?

His throat squeezing tight, Daniel stared at his drink. He wiped his sweaty palms on his jeans. Willed himself not to chicken out. He took another sip.

He imagined himself standing up with his cock still hard, walking up to the stage. Awkwardly stammering Hi.

The crowd cheered again, closer this time.

Someone touched Daniel on the small of his back, a large, warm palm that burned through Daniel’s thin shirt. The same someone stopped beside him just inches away, hot and sweaty, rainbow light gleaming off his pecs. Daniel stopped breathing.

“Hi.” Heath leaned casually against the bar, even more handsome up close. “May I get you a drink?”

His voice rasped like blunt nails on Daniel’s skin, and his piercing eyes bore straight into Daniel’s soul. It wasn’t every day that you got an alpha all broad-shouldered and strong jaw, looking at you like you were the
