spring I’ll be joining him for his first raid and I don’t think I ever would have imagined my life this way, or thought that I could be this happy.

My wife may be the princess of Wolfjour Ail, but we have our small home that is just enough for us and we’re far enough from the main house that we can have our privacy.

My head jerks when I see someone running toward me. I’ve yet to truly learn the language, thankfully the seeress placed a spell on me so that I can communicate with everyone here. They can understand me and I them, but I still don’t know their language in their own words.

“The queen, she delivers the babe. King Aaric demands his sister.”

My body jerks and I dip my chin before I turn around and rush back into the house. “Wife,” I shout.

Sylvi turns around, her eyes widening as she stands at the stove making something for us to break our fast.

“Liv is having the babe,” I cry out.

Sylvi’s eyes widen and she gasps. “Go to her. I will shut down the kitchen and meet you there.”

She nods her head and starts to run past me, but I don’t let her get far. Wrapping my hands around her shoulders, I tug her against my chest. Tilting my head to the side, I touch my mouth to hers in a swift, hard kiss.

“I will be there shortly, wife. All will be well.”

Sylvi nods her head as I release my grip on her arms. She gives me a smile, then turns around and runs off toward the main house. I watch her until she’s safely inside of the home, then I go about shutting down our small kitchen.

Heading toward the main house, I am not surprised to see Aaric and many of his close guards standing around a table with pitchers of ale all around. Aaric gulps one down, then refills his mug and drinks another, and another.

“Aaric, you will not be able to stand or hold your own babe,” I call out.

Aaric’s gaze meets mine, his eyes are glazed over slightly and he gives me a wink. “Já, I will slow down, my brother-in-law is correct.”

We wait for what feels like hours, until Sylvi bursts through their bedroom door. She’s got an apron on, her hair is in a bun on top of her head and her face is flushed. Aaric rushes toward her and I follow close at his back.

“Liv and the babe are both fine, Aaric. You would be so proud, you have a healthy wife and a healthy baby boy,” she rasps.

He wraps his arms around her, dipping his chin to touch his lips to her cheek before he releases her and turns around.

“I have a son,” he roars. Then without another word, he turns and runs into the bedroom to see both his wife and his son.

“Sylvi,” I call out.

She lifts her gaze to me, wiping the tears from her eyes. Wordlessly she shuffles toward me, burying her face in my chest. Wrapping my arms around her, I touch my mouth to the top of her head.

“All is well, wife.”

She tips her head back, her watery gaze meeting mine. “It is, Jeremiah. It is so well.”

About the Author

As an only child, Hayley Faiman had to entertain herself somehow. She started writing stories at the age of six and never really stopped.

Born in California, she met her now husband at the age of sixteen and married him at the age of twenty in 2004. After all of these years together, he’s still the love of her life.

Hayley’s husband joined the military and they lived in Oregon, where he was stationed with the US Coast Guard. They moved back to California in 2006, where they had two little boys. Recently, the four of them moved out to the Hill Country of Texas.

Most of Hayley’s days are spent taking care of her two boys and homeschooling them, going music lessons, the pool for swim practice, or helping them with homework.

Her evenings are spent with her husband and her nights—those are spent creating alpha book boyfriends.
