things so unfinished.”

“Whose fault is that?” She says, showing me a flash of defiance that makes me have to chastise my cock as he responds to it.

“Mine,” I admit. “I shouldn’t have so callously pushed you away, but I was trying to protect you. Maybe I was just trying to protect myself.”

I stop, frustrated at not knowing what else to say until she nods in understanding.

“And now you want this to have a second chance?” She asks, gesturing between the two of us.

“Yes,” I whisper to her. “I know you should tell me to go to hell. I would deserve it after waiting for so long.”

“Then I would be the one with all the regrets,” she whispers back. “That just wouldn’t work for me, so I’d like to go and talk to you about things.” I smile at her as I kiss the hand I never released after I shook it. It’s as soft as I remembered. “I’m not agreeing to anything,” she says, taking her hand back. “This is just for us to talk.”

“I understand.” I laugh. She’s sure not going to make this easy for me, but I’m going to enjoy putting in the work if it means I get to have her back at the end. “You’re not seeing anyone?”

Try as I might, I can’t keep my territorial nature down and the grin on her face tells me she’s on to me.

“I am currently single, Mr. Garrett,” she says.

“Please call me Tristan.”

She gifts me with a laugh that stirs my soul.

“I’d prefer to call you Triscuit,” she says, laughing again.

“Coming from you, I think I’d like that.”

I offer her my hand to lead her to my car. She takes it, threading her fingers with mine.

“Now that we’ve gotten our names out of the way, the rest should be pretty easy to figure out,” she says. “I must warn you, though, watching you argue with your throw pillows inspired me to take a few debate classes and I’ve become very good at swaying things in my favor.”

“You keep laughing like that and it won’t take much for me to fold. I’m only a laugh away from showing my hand and yes, it’s the same damn hand I like to spank you with.”

She laughs, and the heart that was dead for so long starts to beat again.
