Her bravado came from watching men. She is such a force because she’ll sideline you if she thinks she has to. She grew up with a brother who fiercely protected her from the tough shit. When I came around, she was as green as I was, I just never saw around the mask.
For the past year, she’s had to deal with everything for herself. I think she understands that her games cut deep. It took losing it all, but I really think she learned.
I think of a time, ancient history now, when Izzy told me she would tenderize my heart with the heel of her shoe. He was right, but he underestimated me. In the end, he’s gone and I won. I still get the girl.
