Description
In the wake of his fiancée’s death, Laurie Baxter is introduced to the Spiritualist movement of the early 20th century. As his grief pushes him to explore an underworld of trances and séances, he finds himself torn between many sets of separate worlds: his Catholic faith and Spiritualist skepticism, his home in the country and his life in the city, his departed fiancée and Maggie Deronnais, the adopted sister who longs to support Laurie through his suffering.
