Ouchi Yoshitaka (1507-1551) was a samurai lord, ruler of most of the island of Kyushu, Japan. In 1551, one of his generals rebelled and overpowered his army. He composed this death poem just before committing seppuku (ritual suicide). The last two lines of his poem come from the Kongo-gyo (Diamond sutra), a Buddhist scripture that teaches that the essence of all is void. Translation from the original Japanese reads:

Almost 90 percent of reported rapes are perpetrated against female victims, though the rate of reporting by males who were sexually assaulted is thought to be very low, so that number might be a bit skewed.

Sunao (1887-1926) was a haiku poet who died at the age of thirty-nine. Haiku is a traditional epigrammatic Japanese poem based on 17 syllables that are arranged 5 — 7 — 5. Translation from the original Japanese reads:

Togyu (1705-1749) was a haiku poet. He died on August 15, 1749 at the age of forty-four. Translation from the original Japanese reads:

The 1984 movie Ghostbusters featured Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, and Harold Ramis at their comedic best. The “don’t cross the streams” reference, in case you haven’t seen or don’t remember it, goes like this:

Dr. Egon Spengler (Ramis): “There’s something very important I forgot to tell you.”

Dr. Peter Venkman (Murray): “What?”

Spengler: “Don’t cross the streams.”

Venkman: “Why?”

Spengler: “It would be bad.”

Venkman: “I’m fuzzy on the whole good/bad thing. What do you mean, bad?”

Spengler: “Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.”

Venkman: “Right. That’s bad. Okay. All right. Important safety tip. Thanks, Egon…”

If you are going to make a threat this extreme, you’d damn well better not lose the fight though. A threat of male rape after a fight could very easily sway a jury that killing you afterwards was an act of blind and justified fear. Sometimes a solution for one part of the conflict complicates all the others. Choose your words wisely.

Kane wisely bailed before that guy returned, reading about the aftermath the next day in the local paper.

8

Personalization is taking an argument to a personal level such as the “fat, uppity bitch” comment from the sales clerk. He was no longer focused on what happened with the $22.00 but rather on the character of his accuser.
