closed door could always be opened if someone wanted it enough.

And Max said that windows, anyway, were not like doors. Even when tight shut, windows let in the light.

Like many things Max said, this confused Jean for a long time. He talked of resonance and circles that vibrated, one affecting the other, even when they never touched. Jean thought that Max was being difficult, and she wondered what any of it had to do with windows, and falling through them.

But Kate thought that it was like something Susan had told her not long ago. If you lived in a world of walls, still, doors could be made.

And windows.
