“Ash, can you look after Mikey for us?” Shade asked as he lifted Marissa gently, clasping her gently to his chest, and opening their link to start the process of using his Alpha power to aid her with her pain.
“No problem,” Ash said quickly. “Good luck, Marissa.”
Marissa was in the midst of a contraction so she didn’t reply, her fingers grasping onto Shade in a death grip. “I’m here, my mate, I’ll help you now. Just relax and let me take it from you.”
This time Marissa’s labor was far quicker, with both children born mere moments apart, one boy, one girl, and both as perfect as their mother in Shade’s eyes. Marissa was crying as Lana finished up, Shade sitting beside her, with both their babies in his arms.
“They’re perfect, Shade, just perfect.”
“I know, darling, just like their mom.” He looked down at his daughter. A mirror image of her mother, a mop of dark hair already covering her head, and the same button nose. Damn, he could see him locking her up for several years in the future. Or, better still, he could assign several Enforcers as her own personal guards. Yes, that would work at keeping any boys away from her.
Then his eyes were drawn to his son, who looked so much like Shade it was uncanny, the same dark look in his eyes. Unlike humans, Shifter babies were not all born with blue eyes, and his son’s eyes held the same gold specks deep inside them that Shade’s own did. He vowed to ensure that all his children would be loved, protected, and grow up to know right from wrong. And he’d make damn sure that they’d make good Alphas when the time came, each one of them, including his daughter.
Marissa’s hand landed on his knee as she sighed. “So, about what I said earlier.”
“Yes.” Shade raised an eyebrow.
“Three seems such an . . . uneven number. Don’t you think?”
Shade’s eyes widened for the briefest of moments before his head fell back and laughter erupted, taking several minutes to regain control. “Whatever you say, my darling, whatever you say.”
“That’s settled then,” Marissa replied firmly. “Just one more. In a couple of years, of course, Not right away. Just one more. Or maybe two. We’ll see.”
Shade laughed again. Hell, she could have as many as she wanted. He’d do anything for Marissa. Anything at all. She was his mate, his love, his everything.
