“Trevor?”
Shit. He hadn’t answered her. “I-I’ll just have my usual.”
For some reason, this made the corners of Alexis’s lips turn up, her dimple becoming more prominent with the movement. “One patty melt and fries, coming up.” Staring a little deeper into his eyes, she added softly, “Let me know if you think of anything else you need.”
Jesus. The temperature in the small diner seemed to instantly rise. “I will. Thanks, Lexi.”
Smiling a little wider, she turned and walked away, her wavy ponytail swinging as she went. Trevor’s eyes couldn’t help but follow.
“Just here for the food, huh?”
He blinked and looked across the table at Derek. He had that, I-know-you’re-full-of-shit, look on his face.
Resigned, Trevor sighed. “Fine. I think she’s cute. Whatever.”
“She is cute. And she likes you.”
Shaking his head, Trevor started to argue, “She doesn’t—”
“Dude. She was practically eye-fuckin’ you while you were giving her your order. And then there was the whole,” Derek switched to his best phone-sex operator impression, making his voice low and husky, “Let me know if you think of anything else you need.”
Despite his irritation, Trevor couldn’t help but smirk. “She was talking about what I wanted to eat, you idiot.”
“Oh, I know what you want to eat. Not that I can blame you. Lex is a hot little number. She’s got that whole, blond-hair, blue-eyed, America’s Sweetheart thing goin’ for her. In fact, if you really don’t plan on makin’ a move there, I think I might just have to—”
Trevor did kick Derek then. Hard.
“Ow!” Derek leaned down, rubbing his shin beneath the table. “What the fuck?”
Leaning forward, and making sure she wasn’t anywhere in earshot, Trevor growled, “Don’t.”
“What’s your problem?”
“My problem is, Lexi isn’t like all those other women you screw around with. She’s not a one-and-done kind of girl, and I don’t want to see her get hurt by some jackass like you who’s just looking for his next piece of ass. That’s my problem.”
“You got all that, just from her serving you a few meals?”
Trevor chose not to respond.
The corners of Derek’s mouth turned up slowly. “I’ll be damned.”
Trevor knew better than to ask, but he did it anyway. “What?”
“You like her. I mean, you really like her.”
When Trevor looked back over at the blond angel again, his heart thumped a bit harder than before. Derek might be a dumbass, but he was right. Trevor liked Alexis. A lot.
Now, he just had to figure out what the hell he was going to do about it.
