the exception to my rule too.” He nodded. “Go ahead and take it.”

She leaned in to the driver’s side of the car, letting her cleavage be exposed to him, and kissed him on the cheek. “Thank you, babe! I promise I won’t disappoint you.”

CHAPTER 26

Fitz dropped her off, and now she had so much work to do. Immediately, she gave Black the work and, as she promised him, the shop was opened. Black dumped the work in the streets quick and had the money together. In the meantime, she got a small beachfront apartment and moved in.

She had finally caught up with Viper and was now about to head to his house and pay him back the money that she owed him from bailing her out. When she wasn’t too far away, Fitz called her. He’d already informed her that their date would be this afternoon.

“Can be ready at two p.m. sharp?” he questioned.

“Just have one errand I need to run, so if you could pick me up in about an hour, that’s cool. I just have to go pay my friend back for doing me a favor. As soon as I swing by there, I can meet up with you. I have money for you too.”

“Really? Just wait until you have all of it, and then I will get it from you.”

“No, I do.”

“Really?” he asked.

“Yes. Told you I be about my business,” she said as she parked in front of Viper’s building.

“Okay, but I wasn’t calling for that. I was calling to make good on our date.”

“Looking forward to it. See you in an hour?”

“One hour. I will call you,” he said before disconnecting the call.

The building was a swank high rise that looked over Biscayne Bay. The doorman had been expecting her and said she could go right up. She took the elevator to the tenth floor. Apartment 1007 was the fourth door on the left. No one answered when she knocked, which was odd, because Viper knew that she was coming. She tried the knob to see if the door was locked. It wasn’t, so she let herself in, hoping that he didn’t have company.

The apartment opened up to a wide foyer, which led to an expensively furnished living room and an open kitchen with all new stainless steel appliances set straight off to the left. She heard music coming from the den, apparently his man cave, further down the hallway.

“Viperrrrr.”

He didn’t answer when she called his name. Bianca rolled her eyes. She had told him over the phone just twenty minutes ago that she would be in a hurry and needed to be in and out.

“Hellooooo! Big brotherrrr!” she called, because she didn’t want no problems for him or herself, being that Viper was probably getting better acquainted with one of his hoes that he claimed he didn’t have.

She and Viper had grown to be friends, like brother and sister, so Viper’s sex life didn’t bother her, unless one of those chicks was trying to get over on him. That was a different story, but Viper was a big boy and was more than capable of taking care of himself. Until he wasn’t.

When Bianca stepped into the man cave, she found Viper alone. “Shit!” She ran to his side.

He was sprawled on the floor, butterball naked and unconscious—or was he dead?

“Fuuuuuuck!” she screamed as her heart dropped. “Nooooo!”

Bianca went into her purse to get her phone to call the ambulance, but then she spotted a needle on the floor.

“Got-damn! Don’t tell me this nigga shooting up!” She took a deep breath, trying to figure out what to do.

Let me see if this nigga dead or alive first.

She grabbed her mirrored compact and put it under his nose to see if he was breathing. She wasn’t sure, but she thought she saw his nostrils moving. She reached for his wrist and he had a weak pulse.

Thank God. Okay, so he’s alive!

“God, please, help me! Viper, please, baby, don’t die on me.”

She didn’t want to call the police for Viper to get a drug charge, so she grabbed her phone and Googled “drug overdose.” The service was moving super slow, maybe because of the building.

“Shit! Shit!” she screamed in a panicked voice and ran to the kitchen to his freezer. She opened it up and grabbed the ice bucket out of it. She went and poured it on his balls. She didn’t know where she had heard it from, or what movie she had seen it in, but she did it. She kept putting the ice on him and calling his name. “Viper! Viper! Please! Please! Come back! Come back! God, help me! Help Viper!” she cried out.

By now, her Google search had come up and she skimmed through it. One site instructed her to keep hitting his chest, and she kept desperately pumping his chest and putting the ice on his testicles like there was no tomorrow. She really didn’t know what else to do.

Breathing hard, feeling beads of perspiration from anxiety on working so hard at trying to bring him back, Bianca knew that she didn’t have much time to play with. Her heart was pounding with each pump she did on Viper’s chest. He had foam running out of his mouth, and she didn’t want to do mouth-to-mouth resuscitation if she didn’t have to. She really had never taken CPR classes, so she didn’t want to make things worse. Her last resort was to call 911 to get the help, but she knew he might get a drug charge and the police might search his place. The shit she was doing clearly wasn’t working, and the last thing she wanted to do was see him in jail, but at the same time, she’d never forgive herself if he died on her watch.

It went without saying that she’d rather see him in jail than dead any day. She took a deep breath and decided to try one more time, and if it
