Their bodies moved as one as theydozed for a few hours, Todd instinctively making sure she was neverout of arms reach in the king sized bed. As the day finallyfiltered through the blinds, and she stirred, Chloe could notcontain her smile or the feeling of euphoria which still dancedaround inside her head.
“Good morning,” Chloewhispered into his ear.
Chloe nuzzled Todd’s neck as shepushed him onto his back and rolled on top of him. She tenderlykissed his eyelids, then the tip of his nose, then his mouth as hestirred awake. “I see you are up and about already.”
She giggled as she slid intoposition, capturing the tip of him within her in one swiftmovement. She eased herself down, little by little, until he filledher once more.
“Now this is the way aman should wake up every morning.” Todd tried hard to hide hissmile as he opened his eyes.
“Shall we see wherethis morning’s ride takes us?” asked Chloe, sitting up to straddlehis hips with him firmly inside her.
“Wouldn’t have it anyother way. I’m enjoying the view.”
“Believe me, I amenjoying the view from up here too. Hold onto your hat. This isgoing to be a bumpy ride.”
Chloe smiled as she endeavouredto make the start of Todd’s day a memorable one.
“Why does breakfast always tasteso good after sex?” Todd sat back and pushed away his emptyplate.
“Notjust sex. Mind-blowingsex, if you don’t mind.” Chloe’s self-satisfied grin was hard tohide. She slid another forkful of fluffy poached egg into hermouth.
“I think I’ll callSamantha …”
“… and tell her we hadsex?” Chloe asked, pretending to be horrified.
“Very funny. To askher to change my appointments this morning, to this afternoon. Idon’t feel like rushing into the office today.”
Todd picked up thedirty plates to load into the dishwasher. Chloe sat at the diningroom table admiring his cute butt as he sauntered into the kitchenin his black Calvin Klein’s. A delicious shiver ran through her asshe recalled the last few hours spent in Todd’s bed. What a difference a day makes. No wonder someone used that for a song title. How apt itwas. She ran her hand up and down her thigh, feeling the scar underthe light fabric of her robe. It amazed her how little her leg hadcomplained, given the workout it had received. Thankfully theendorphins had offset any pain. She felt on top of the world thismorning, and ready to take on anything.
When Todd finally left theapartment, after promising to return and pick her up by 6 pm for anearly dinner date, she thought about the turn of events. She couldtell by the way he looked at her as he kissed her goodbye that anearly dinner meant an early return, and that he had only one thingon his mind. She couldn’t blame him for that, because she had thesame thought. Now she had discovered what lay beneath the Armanisuits, and she could wait to investigate some more.
As she curled up onthe sofa, her hands wrapped around a cup of coffee, she mulled overwhat she should wear. Where would he take her? Would it be in thecity? Maybe that new restaurant atSouthbank. He would pick a nice venue asthis would be their first official date. These were the questionsforemost on her mind. Of course the idea of the dessert waiting athome was an added distraction.
“Oh my God … I justrealised I have nothing good enough to wear. My dresses are athome.” Chloe yelled. She sat bolt upright, nearly spilling hercoffee, as realisation dawned. I’ll goingto need some help!
Samantha smiled when she sawChloe’s name on the screen of her iPhone. “To what do I owe thispleasure?”
“Hi Samantha, I reallyneed your help. Todd is taking me out to dinner tonight, and I havenothing appropriate here at the apartment. Would you mind taking mehome at lunchtime and help me pick something suitable? I’ll buy youlunch.”
“Sure honey. Icancelled a couple of Todd’s appointments this morning, so we’requiet in the office. He’s here now, and so is Daniel, so they canlook after the office if I duck out for an hour. Although I canprobably guess, the details of exactly why he is walking aroundwith a silly smile on his face would be sufficient payment. Youdon’t have to buy me lunch.”
“Thanks a million.Give me fifteen or twenty minutes to throw on some clothes, andI’ll meet you downstairs.”
Chloe chuckled toherself as she gathered her house keys and her mobile phone to putin her handbag. Samantha would be ruthless when it came to findingout what had happened between them last night. She would have to behonest with her. I’m falling in love withTodd, so there’s no point in trying to deny it any longer. She hoped Samantha would approve. She had hintedas much last night when she confronted Chloe about Todd’s feelings.Samantha’s opinion carried a lot of weight with Todd, and shereally wanted her as a friend.
CHAPTERELEVEN
Picking a suitable ensemble tooklonger than either had anticipated. Partly because neither could besure of the venue Todd had booked for dinner. Samantha finallytalked Chloe into selecting a long halter-neck dress and strappysandals. She also packed a cashmere wrap, in case the venue had analfresco dining area.
“Okay. I think I havebeen really patient, but my patience is wearing thin now. I thoughtit was just Todd, but you are both acting mysterious. Out with it!When are you going to tell me what happened between you and Todd toput silly grins on both your faces this morning?” Samantha stood blocking the doorfrom the bedroom, determined to find out the truth.
“Well, if you reallywant to know, I thought about what you said, and I confronted himwhen you left.”
“And?”
“And we had a bit of adisagreement. But then a strange thing happened. I remembered theaccident. It was Todd who took me to the hospital and stayed withme. I had been led to believe Patrick found me.”
“Yes, I knew it wasTodd. I wasn’t aware you thought it was Patrick, I don’t thinkanyone was aware of that … not even Patrick.”
“Right after I
