“What the hell is going on?” his grandfather snarled, looking at Jasmine, then at Katherine, the beast riding him strong. His eyes were glowing and fangs were hanging low. “Does it have anything to do with the feds outside?”
“Fuck,” R.D. growled and sat down on the couch, brushing Jasmine’s hair back. “They’re here for Jasmine. Something about her company. Seems the ones messing with our company are also trying to take down hers. We’re stable since we’ve been around for years, but Jasmine’s isn’t.” He looked up at his grandfather. “Do you know a Vampire named Hisao?”
“He knows him, we both do. All of this—the attack, the money disappearing…They could all be connected,” his dad said, but was interrupted by his grandfather.
“Wait, what attack? Who was attacked and why is my granddaughter now one of us? Someone better start talking.”
“Stop growling, old man,” Jasmine said as she raised her head and turned towards his grandfather, slowly smiling. “The attack was when I was a child. As for turning me, that was their decision. Their need to protect me.” Jasmine curled up closer to R.D., holding onto his shirt and rubbing her cheek against his chest. She didn’t realize it, but the bonding was already starting to form. Her body recognized his and Logan’s, needing to touch them, just like they needed to touch her.
“He’s here. I should go and lead him away,” Jasmine looked up at him and he tightened his hold on her.
“You are not going anywhere but to our home. It’s more secure and we’ll have the pack there to help with protecting you.” R.D. tightened his hold on her and rubbed his cheek on the top of her head. “He’s not going to get you, Princess, we won’t let him.”
“Hisao is here? He attacked you? Don’t move.” His grandfather headed to his father’s office.
“What’s going on?” Jasmine tried to sit up, but he held her tighter. “Let me up, R.D. I want to see what he’s doing.”
“He’ll explain himself to us soon enough,” he said as R.D. watched Daman come into the room, followed by three men in suits.
“Sorry for the interruption, but they wouldn’t wait any longer,” Daman nodded to newcomers men as R.D. placed Jasmine onto his brother’s lap and turned to meet them.
His father joined him in front of Jasmine while her mother took his seat, sitting next to Jasmine. “Gentlemen, what is so important this couldn’t wait for another day? As you can see, she is not feeling well right now.” R.D. stated, not even introducing himself.
“And you are?” The one man stepped around Daman, glaring at him.
“That is my grandson R.D. Madox, his father stands next to him, Cole Madox, and I’m Hendrix Madox. Now, why the intrusion into our home?” their grandfather asked, coming out of the office. R.D. had to hold back the smile as all three men took a step back.
His grandfather, even at the age of 200, scared shifters in their prime and humans didn’t stand a chance. “We were investigating a tip left by an informant that Ms. Alexander’s company is laundering stolen money from your own company, Mr. Madox.” The man stared at R.D., and he smiled.
“Really, I never heard of any such thing and, believe me, I would be the first to know if any of my money was missing. As a matter of fact, I believe my brother sent her some money to invest for us. We always like to help new companies start out.” R.D. stated.
“Nice try Mr. Madox, but your company isn’t the only one involved. Ms. Alexander, we need to see all of your books now and I’m afraid you’ll have to come with us.” The man stepped to the side, trying to reach Jasmine.
Her little gasp behind him and the fear that radiated from her, made both R.D. and his father growl.
“I’m afraid that will not be happening. My granddaughter goes nowhere without us, plus as my grandson has mentioned, Ms. Alexander is not well. You can contact our attorney. I’m sure you have heard of him,” his grandfather took over, as R.D. turned to kneel in front of Jasmine.
Tears rolled down her cheeks. “We’ll fix this, Princess, I promise,” R.D. whispered and reached up, brushing the tears away.
“I’m sorry, sir, but I have orders to take her downtown with all her files now,” the guy demanded behind him.
R.D. turned to see the man who had been doing all the talking take out a piece of paper. “This here is my warrant. Do I need to call in extra help or are you going to step aside and allow me to do my job?” the man snapped.
“Hendrick, I’ll go. Please let’s not start trouble,” Jasmine scooted to the edge of the couch, placing her hand on his shoulder trying to lift herself up, but fell back with a cry of pain.
“Don’t do that again. You are going to sit right there. Young man, get Terrace White on the phone now!” his grandfather snapped at the man.
R.D. stood. He had had enough and was going to get rid of this trash, when her small hand slipped into his. He looked down and she shook her head. “Please, I don’t want you to get into trouble.” Her big brown eyes held so much pain that his heart was breaking.
“I’m not going to get into trouble, Princess.” He leaned down and kissed her lips softly. “Katherine, will you pack some things for Jasmine? Take father with you, because right now we don’t need him…” he looked over at his father as did Katherine.
Katherine gasped and jumped up, moving to his father side, twining her fingers with his claw hand, hiding it behind her back. “Come, we need to pack Jasmine some things to take and I really don’t want to go into that room after…well you know,” she whispered, running her cheek
