this day to come to fruition since the day Lucious’s parents came to me, needing a fertility spell to help them produce a cub of their own. The day has finally arrived; finally, this split soul can come together as one. I’ve been anticipating and looking forward to this time to come around and align the universe to rights—once again.

“I need the two of you to not interrupt once I begin. Any questions the two of you have you can ask once Olga and I complete this tale. Agreed?” I see the hesitation in Lucious’s and Shelbi’s face before they finally submit and nod their heads. “I’ll start, then Olga will tell her side. Lucious, your parents came to me for assistance. They were having a hard time with fertility issues. They desperately wanted a cub of their own. They were such a lovely and committed couple, and I was irrevocably drawn to them instantly. You could feel the love they had for one another radiating through their actions, and words. I’d done the basic fertility spell in the past, but they weren’t always successful. I wanted nothing more than to ensure that they had you. I went to my sister for help. We came up with an improved spell that would ensure your birth.” The stunned look on Lucious’s face has me stalling, waiting for my words to sink in. When I see him settle a little, I continue, “We ultimately came up with a way to force Mother Nature into complying. With our research, we found that if we took one soul and split it into two halves, then add a little magic to it, they’d become impregnated without any complications.”

“You see,” Olga interrupts me, “the reason I was so eager to help my sister with this is because your parents also came to me with the same request, Shelbi.”

“We decided to help out, but in order to do so, there were certain things we had to keep to ourselves,” I add. “Witches and shifters haven’t always seen eye to eye, and didn’t get along with one another well. They, shifters that is, believe we were cursed by the devil. We were feared and hunted for a time. Wanting to diminish that gap, we thought that we’d be able to do so if we were no longer perceived as a threat, but helpful to shifters. The running, always looking over our shoulders and being uprooted every other year or so was growing tiresome. We wanted to put down roots somewhere; enjoy the life and gifts we were given as children. We’d been running and hiding since I can remember. It was tiring and my parents suffered dearly with paranoia. Olga and I weren’t allowed to have friends, go to school, or be normal, average kids. Thinking we could be helpful to future generations of witches and warlocks, we agreed this was our best option and path to take. We concocted a serum that would help shifters with infertility. We didn’t know, at that time, that it would breed two of the most powerful, feared shifters to ever be born.”

“We just wanted to help,” Olga says with water shedding and streaming down her cheeks from her tears. “You two are the best things that ever came from a spell.” She reaches over and takes Shelbi’s hand with her own. “You are a miracle, Shelbi.” The young female shifter sniffs as Olga shares her feelings with her. “It’s why I’ve always been so demanding with you and your studies.”

“It’s okay, Olga. Please don’t cry,” Shelbi says, wiping away a tear of her own. Damn, I have to clear my throat to keep from joining them on their emotional roller coaster.

“This is a cluster fuck, I’m a test-tube baby. Please keep going, Helga, just finish ripping the Band-Aid off,” Lucious demands. His own voice comes out clogged full of emotions. But my boy, he’ll never share those with others. He’s a ‘hold your feelings close to the vest’ sort of man. His fear of being perceived as weak overrules his heart. He’s always been a whipper snapper; I’ve secretly enjoyed his bantering ways.

“You weren’t created in a tube at a lab, Lucious.” The ridiculousness of that unwarranted statement is baffling. Humans and their absurd science experimentations need to be shut down. There are herbs and roots provided by our earthly nature that’d work so much better, and are less of a financial burden. Those doctors are greedy and only think of their pocketbooks and bank account balances. Their patients are no more than lab rats, it’s disgusting and unethical if you were to ask my opinion.

Olga

Knowing my sister is lost in her own thoughts, I pick up my side of the story. “Shelbi, your parents were desperate with need for you. Your mother was full of sorrow that she was unable to conceive the way those around her were producing offspring by the dozens. The concoction we made was to not only ensure your conception, but it also gave you an extra ‘oomph’,” I try to explain. The way they’re looking at me, mouths open wide, has me shifting uncomfortably in my chair. “When they came to me, begging and pleading for my assistance, I was more than willing to help them make their dream come true. Through magical conception, we took one soul and split it into two different beings. This ensured that you were not only to become the most powerful mates to ever exist, but that you are twin souls.”

“By twin souls, she means that as soon as you aligned with one another in this dimension, something inside of you would settle… a feeling of home and contentment, like you’ve never known, will settle deep inside of you. You two will finally feel as if that missing piece of you is no longer a void, a black hole. Together, you will produce offspring that are both magical, and powerful. The most powerful of your kind to ever
