“Burns…” I plead again. This can’t be happening. How could things have gone to shit so fast? Where did he come from? He’s supposed to be at City Hall with Kaden. God, Kaden. Where is Kaden?
“That’s it. Beg Ava. Only makes it more fun for me.” Burns goads again. He takes another step forward as he cocks his gun.
Everything seems to happen at once in the next moment. The sound of a gunshot rings through the room, I shift, diving behind the chair again intending to lunge for Burns. Mid leap I pull up short, watching in confusion as Burns’ body falls to the side, collapsing in a heap between the sofa and the coffee table. Twisting midair, I land in a ready stance, bracing for whatever may come from the hallway.
Kaden comes rushing through the door, gun raised, and takes a quick efficient sweep of the room. His eyes settle on me, still shifted and crouched under the window. I watch him relax on a relieved sigh as he lowers his weapon and closes the gap between us.
“Baby, oh my god Ava. Are you alright?” He asks, dropping to his knees and reaching for me before I even have a chance to shift. With my next breath I shift and fall against him, curling into his body as he gathers me into his arms. Kaden presses my head into his shoulder and mumbles comforts against my hair as I let the fear and anxiety of the last few moments leech from me as the adrenaline fades. Snuggling into his warmth, I let his strength and reassuring presence wash over me as the tears flow.
I’m not sure how long we sit there like that, but my tears stop, and I finally lift my head to meet his gaze. “Kaden… how, why… how are you here?” I finally ask.
“I felt you.” He says, sounding like he can’t believe it himself. “I felt you Ava. You were so scared… I had to get to you…” his voice is distant, like he isn’t fully aware he’s talking. His arms haul me more fully against him and he strokes his fingers down my spine.
“Our bond. You felt our bond.” I whisper against his chest, pressing a soft kiss over his heart.
“Our… really?” he asks, pulling back to look at me, but I only snuggle into him more, not wanting to lose a millimeter of his warmth against me.
“Yes really. Once we’ve completed our bond, we’ll be able to feel each other’s emotions. It only works for you right now, but once you claim me too it will go both ways. We’ll be able to communicate telepathically while shifted too.” I explain. That does it, like I knew it would. Kaden lifts me up and turns me so I’m facing him, straddling his lap.
“Any other superpowers you forgot to mention I’m gonna have?!” He asks attempting to sound frustrated, but the teasing smile in his eyes gives him away.
“Other than the power to give me orgasms till I pass out?” I ask innocently, winding my arms around his neck. I chose to conveniently forget the fact we are sitting two feet from a dead body. I need a little levity for the moment before we deal with that.
“Oh, that one’s all me baby.” He laughs, waggling his eyebrows suggestively. “No superpowers needed.”
“Alrighty there, Sheriff Woody. Let’s take care of this asshole before your head gets any bigger.” I tease, crawling off him.
“Oh, there are so many responses to that! But fine, you’re right. Let’s do this quick because I need to be inside you again and smack that fine ass of yours for thinking you would jump in front of a fucking bullet.” He says, giving my ass a playful slap before pulling off the hoodie he is wearing and tossing it to me.
“Oh, Inspector Gadget, we have all the time in the world for that.” I say with a bright smile. “You know Shifters are damn near immortal, right?”
The look Kaden gives me is priceless. His jaw hits the floor and I can see the bulge in his jeans grow at the thought.
“All the time in the world.” I repeat, leaning in and giving him a sweet kiss. We have lifetimes a head of us, and I can’t think of anyone I’d rather spend them with than Kaden. My perfect fated mate.

Dark Leopards MC is currently on the hunt for a pedophile who has been hurting little boys. No one is allowed to hurt the children in our city.
We may be one-percenters who don't live by the laws of the state, city, or country, but we know where to draw the line. We sell drugs, women, and booze.
Dark Leopards MC is made up of leopards, panthers, and lions, all of us running through the woods together to pick up the scent I detected earlier in the day. I catch it and
