Polly fall forward. I turn to look over my shoulder and see Jason, who has a sinister expression on his face. Fuck! I completely forgot about Jason. Being in the same space as Polly makes me forget the rest of the world. Polly’s on the floor bleeding with a knife in her back. Rage boils over within me, and I run to strangle Jason.

He’s laughing as I choke him. Once he passes out from the lack of oxygen, I press my fingers into his eyeballs, feeling them squish as my fingers dig deeper into his head. The blood is pouring out of his sockets. I’m sure he’s going to die soon, and I’m certain I’m almost in his brain.

I hear someone yelling my name and shift my gaze to see Polly lying on the ground, barely breathing with a knife sticking out of her back. Her brown hair is covering her face, but the slight hint of a handprint is on her face. I see nothing except rage and glare at my brother. Lifting Jason’s head, I snap his neck.

“Burn this mother fucking place down.” I spit on Jason. Taking my shirt off, I wrap around the blade. “I need to get to Doc.”

“We’ve already called him; he’s on his way to the clubhouse. Finn is driving the van. We’ll get your bike out of here, so no one notices,” August states. I give my thanks as I carry her out.

We’re in the van, and I’m holding her hand as she lies on her stomach, and I move her hair out of her face to see her face. “I’m so sorry, Polly. I shouldn’t have been distracted and made sure Jason was chained up properly. Please, don’t leave me.” I kiss her cheek. Finn pulls up to the back of the clubhouse, allowing us to take her into the doctor’s office we’ve made for the clubhouse.

Doc is an honorary member. He’s the doctor to the founding members and never asks questions. If something major happens, he figures out how to get whoever into the hospital without a lot of questions being asked.

“Okay, put her on the table,” Doc orders. “Now, leave so I can get to work.” He has a nurse there with him, helping to get Polly hooked up to machines.

“Is there a heartbeat? Can you save her? Should Jackson change her?” Finn grills the Doc.

“Yes, she’s alive, but she’s lost a lot of blood. I’ll try everything I can to save her, but it’s not looking good.” Doc gazes mournfully at me. Finn pushes me forcefully out of the exam room so Doc can work on Polly without us hovering.

I pace the clubhouse’s common room as I wait for Doc to save Polly’s life. I can’t believe Jason did that.

“Do you want a beer?” Finn asks. He’s standing behind our bar, playing bartender while we wait for the other guys to arrive.

“Can I have a shot too?” I point to the bottle of Jack Daniels on the wall. We do a couple of shots together before drinking the beer. It feels as if it has been days since I handed Polly to Doc. “What is taking so long?” I get up, walking over to the doctor’s office door.

“I don’t know, man, but you’re making me nervous.” Finn pulls me away from the office door. Finn has been my best friend since we were prospects together. “Looks like you guys had fun,” he comments as the rest of the Dark Leopards come in. They smell like gasoline and smoke.

“We placed the bodies one on top of another. We left Jason on the bottom of the pile and set his mother fucking evil ass on fire first. No wonder Jackson loves being the enforcer so much. It was a lot of fun.” Tyson pats my back. “Sorry that Jason tried to destroy you like that.”

“I never knew he hated me that much.” I sigh. “Now Polly’s fighting for her life in the other room.”

“We need a church meeting,” Tyson announces, and he informs the prospects to come and get me when the Doc comes out of that room. With that, we head into church. “This is going to be a short meeting, then some of us need to head to Chaotic Twister for security reasons. How did the warehouse in Chicago go?”

I clear my throat. “It went off without a hitch. We got about a couple million dollars’ worth of GHB, meth, and cheese heroin. There was also half a million in cash in the safe. We took care of the identities of the people, and the building went up in smoke. We also switched plates and then road home. I need to check the news outlets to see what they’re saying about it.”

“Ours didn’t go as well. The main supplier wasn’t there, but you ended up taking him out tonight, Jackson.”

“What? Jason was running drugs?” I blanch, and Tyson nods. “Damn. That’s what Jason meant when he told me he wanted me to return it to him. How are we going to sell the GHB? We’ve never pushed that product before?”

“I know a few dealers down in Indiana. Hell, even Chicago now.” Finn laughs. “We need to repackage the drugs with our logo, though.”

There’s a knock on the door, and Griller pokes his head in. “Doc’s looking for you, Jackson.”

I get up and race out of the door. Doc’s sitting at the bar, drinking the light beer he prefers. I think it tastes like piss but to each their own.

“Hey, Doc. How is she?” I inquire nervously.

“She’s stable. I do need to see her in my normal office in a couple of days to get some X-rays. I’m not going to lie to you, Jackson; she might never walk again. The knife was close to her spinal cord. There’s a lot of swelling. We won’t know until it goes down.”

“Thanks, Doc. Can I see her?” I ask, and he tells me yes.
