the newest group of prospects.

Six of them were sprawled on the ground groaning and whining.

“I’m about to give birth and I just kicked your asses. It’s pathetic.”

“Koroleva Liutik!” Chance’s voice carried on the air as he stormed across the field. “You are not supposed to be out here.”

When he finally reached me, he scowled down at me.

“Don’t take that tone with me, Enforcer,” I grated through clenched teeth. “We’ve discussed this. You have to respect me outside of the bedroom.”

“Roark officially benched you as of this morning, wife,” Chance growled.

His head swung to the side as his arm snapped out and he raised a short prospect with curly hair up into the air.

“I don’t think you thought out your actions, prospect,” he snarled into the man’s face. “I’m trying to have a conversation with my wife.”

My thoughts raced and I clenched my fists at my side. How dare Roark decide when I could and couldn’t do my damn job. No way was I going to be like Kendra – sleeping half of my day away and cleaning like a madwoman the other half.

Turning on my heel as Chance continued to bellow at the prospect in his hand. Teach the dumbass to try and sneak up on me. I chuckled as I continued my walk across the uneven ground.

“Holy mother of a mangy alley cat,” I screamed as my stomach twisted and my spine felt as if it was ripped from my back.

Chance’s arms were there to lift me out of the air before I tumbled over from the force of the muscle contractions that were vibrating all over my body.

“What fucking sorcery is this?” I screeched.

“Fuck,” Chance winced as he strode toward the clubhouse. “Love, I think you’re in labor.”

“Bite your fucking tongue! Today isn’t the day. Doc swore I had at least another week.” My words felt weak to my own ears as I bowed in Chance’s arms as the spasms took control of my body.

Chance carried me as I went through another contraction before we reached the heavy metal door that led into the clubhouse.

“I’m sorry, Love, but I have to set you on your feet so I can get this door open.” I moaned as he did as he said. I bent at my waist – or tried to anyhow – and braced my hand on my leg as I panted through the aftershocks.

“Fuck,” I cursed as something popped inside of me and liquid gushes out between my legs.

“Doc!” Chance bellowed into the hall as he forced the door open and scooped me up.

“Put me down,” I cried. “I’m gross, Chance.”

“Never,” he whispered and pressed a kiss to my forehead before turning his face away and yelling, “Doc!”

“What the hell you wan–” Doc slid to a stop. “Oh… yeah, your room. I’ll be right there.”

Chance carried me up the stairs, down the hall, and up to my room which was next to Roark and Kendra’s. As we passed their door another contraction hit me and I screamed out in pain.

Roark’s door was jerked open and Kendra stood there with her mouth open in shock.

“Roark!” she turned and went back inside the room only to follow her mate back out into the hallway as we passed.

“I thought she wasn’t due for at least another week?” Roark asked as squalling came from their room. “Damn it. You woke the babies.”

Kendra smacked Roark and I let out a weak laugh.

“She’s in labor you dumbass. Now go get the kids, I have to help my bestie.” Kendra marched to mine and Chance’s room and pushed open the door.

Doc arrived just as Chance lowered me to our bed. Kendra had spread out the bedding we had waiting for the big event. Unfortunately, as a shifter, we couldn’t go to a hospital or use any of the good drugs the way humans could. I whimpered as another contraction began to twist and pull me apart.

“How close are her contractions?” Doc asked.

“They can’t be more than a couple of minutes,” Chance replied, worry creasing his face. “Her pain is off the charts…” he winced as I clutched his hand in mine and squeezed with the increased strength of my contraction.

“Um… Banshee… were you having contractions before these ones?” Doc asked.

I bit my lower lip as the contraction finally eased off.

“Maybe,” I replied.

“Maybe?” Chance glared down at me. “Damn it, Koroleva, we talked about this.”

“Don’t yell at me, Chance Liutik,” I sobbed. “I didn’t know and then I figured it was those fake ones I read about. How was I supposed to know?”

“I’m sorry, sweetheart. Please don’t cry.” Chance crawled onto the bed and moved in behind me. He pressed my back against his chest and wrapped his arms around me. “I’m sorry, Love,” he murmured a few more times as he ran his fingers up and down my arms.

“Alright, let me get a look,” Doc mumbled as he extended a talon and sliced my leggings from me.

Chance snarled as his head snapped away from me. I could feel his heated glare even if I couldn’t see it.

“Chance, we talked about this.” Doc sighed as he threw the trashed pants to the side. “Do I need to have you restrained like we had to do with Roark?”

“Fucking demonic dumbass brothers,” I snapped as a contraction hit me so hard I thought I was going to split in half.

“What the fuck, Koroleva?” Kendra stared at me in shock. “That’s my man you’re bashing.”

“It’s normal for shifter females to speak nonsense during labor,” Doc assured the human as he patted her arm.

“Yeah, bitch,” I snapped. “At least I’m not threatening to castrate my husband.”

“Hey...” Roark appeared behind Kendra and lifted her off of her feet and carried her out of the room backward.

“We’ll be back later, Banshee. Good luck.” Holding Kendra with one arm he pulled the door closed.

“Chickenshits!” I bellowed as a contraction hit me again.

Doc moved into position and I felt Chance tense behind me.

“Don’t you fucking freak out, Chance Liutik. I need you here!”
