quick to temper, and I was more patient. It took a lot more to rile me up, but that didn’t mean I would let anyone fuck with me. I preferred to savor everything a little more, wait for my adversary to make the wrong move before I struck. It made me the perfect sergeant at arms for our club.

Rubbing my eyes with the heel of my palm, I grunted, “Huh?”

“Dimitri, pull your head out of your ass or your dick out of the whore you’re banging and listen to me for two seconds!”

“Stop acting like a bitch, Siam! This world does not revolve around you! For your information, I’ve been up for two days straight working on club business. I’m barely coherent, and yet, I’m talking to you. So excuse me if I can’t keep up with your less than important conversation!” I snapped, unable to contain my anger. I could usually hold back better than this, but her whiney voice, added to everything else that was weighing heavily on me, I couldn’t handle it any longer. Plus, my sister tended to bring out my frustrations faster than anyone. I shocked Knox, Gray, and Thian the first time they witnessed it. They’d never seen me lose my temper that quickly.

“Maybe you can talk to your ‘brothers’ like that, but not me.” Her words may have sounded like she was mad, but they had lost their heat. After sighing heavily, she asked, “Will you come tonight?”

“Why am I coming to the bar tonight?” I would be there since I wanted to make sure everything was all right with the Dark Leopards’ side business. I hadn’t been for a few days since I’d been working on a few things for Knox, but I needed sleep before I did that. Squinting, I blearily tried to focus on my watch. Two hours. I just needed two hours to shut my eyes, and then I could head over to the bar and be there by nine.

“Because you promised? It’s our birthday, and you promised you’d come and celebrate with me.” Her voice was a little softer, meeker.

I’d been hoping to ring in my twenty-seventh birthday without anyone saying anything. Considering it was 6:03 P.M., I came damn close to making it, but she was right. I had promised her after evading her for the last several weeks since her rescue. At first, I had been there to make sure she was all right, and then, I pulled back. I was older than her, granted it was only by four minutes, but I was older. I was the one in the badass MC, yet, she was the one who became a victim. I should have been able to protect her, and instead, I failed her. So yeah, I was avoiding her like the plague.

My time had come, and it was time to pay the reaper. “I’ll be there by nine. I just need to get some sleep before I do,” I finally answered her. Any time I made my sister feel like shit, it was like a punch to the gut, making me wish I could crawl into a hole and curl up. “I promise.”

“Great!” she excitedly squealed. “See you tonight.” She hung up without another word.

I’d worry about her later, for now, my body begged for sleep. Dropping my phone beside me, I allowed my eyes to close, and I was out before I could count to ten.

Two hours later, a screeching echoed through my room, and I scrambled up and onto my feet, looking around for the intruder. My room was pitch black except for the device from hell, causing the ruckus. “Damn phone,” I grumbled, and then spent the next couple of minutes trying to figure out how to turn of the alarm when I was still half-asleep.

I was awake enough to function, but my bed still called out to me. Too bad, I had to ignore it because between the bar and my sister, I couldn’t crawl back into the warm space and drift off to sleep again.

Rubbing my face with my hands, I yawned and shook my head. It was time to get moving, and I really hoped a shower would wake me up.

It barely did. By the time I finished and got dressed, I was a little more awake and trudged out to my bike, grumbling the whole way under my breath. I just wanted to fucking sleep!

But then, I was suddenly very awake and alert. I’d driven away from our clubhouse and down the road, making it only a few miles before I heard a scream. It was close, and if I was a mere human, I wouldn’t have heard a thing over the roar of my Harley, but I did, and I couldn’t ignore it.

Pulling over, I stripped off my cut just in case I needed to shift quickly. I’d learned a while ago that sometimes you find yourself in a situation that requires more than “human” intervention.

Another scream and the sounds of something scraping against brick. No one was coming to help her, and fuck if I knew why I stopped, but I couldn’t allow an innocent woman to be hurt if I could prevent it. Sure, I’d killed my fair share of men, but women were another story. I’d killed one, and that’s because I’d found out Chelsea was indirectly involved with the rogues who kidnapped my sister. In fact, the bitch had a hand in plotting the kidnapping. I ripped her limb from limb with pleasure.

The alley was dark, pitch black, but I could still see through the inkiness. At the other end of the alley, a man was dragging a woman. His arm coiled around her neck, and she was missing one of her shoes. Her pristine white dress had been soiled brown in spots, and her skin was marred with scrapes and cuts. In his other hand, the man held a large sharp knife under her chin. No doubt that was
