Suave was smiling as he drove to his hideaway home. For the first time since he encountered Pat alone in that bedroom, he felt free. He was free from Pat and free from Pastor Ralph. That night, Suave slept like a baby. He had sweet dreams of his beautiful children and rendezvous with his women. There was no nightmare with the two sissies—Pat and Pastor Ralph. Suave was finally free.
But to remain free, Suave realized he had to beat the enemy over and over again, literally. So he kept going back to Pat, whipping his behind to keep his sanity, and Pat welcomed Suave to maintain his perverted sexual fantasy. It was a win-win situation for both men, a secret that ran into months, then into years.
Part Three
Chapter Thirty-one
Back to Current Day, 2003
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Suave readjusted himself on the bar stool, his arms folded across his chest, glaring at Detective Bird, who was seated on another stool beside him. “You come into my place of business to ask me about some murder over in Spanish Town? Man, are you crazy or something?”
Detective Bird smirked into his half-empty glass of brandy. He shook his head in amusement as he peered over his shoulder at Daddy Lizard and Cobra, who were positioned on either side of the bar’s closed entrance door, their hands behind their backs. “You know I could have issued a warrant for your arrest, but I decided to come and talk to you, man to man, instead.” Detective Bird was bluffing. He had no concrete evidence that Suave or his men were involved in the murder of Saddam’s grandfather, Elder Bloom, but in his heart, the detective knew.
Suave smiled. He knew Detective Bird was fishing, but unfortunately for him, Suave wasn’t biting. “So, that’s how Jamaica is running now?” Suave reached for his cold Heineken and took a slow sip before he continued. “Warrants are being issued for innocent people? Huh?”
“Innocent? If you were so innocent, why did it take me three days to get ahold of you?”
“Detective, I’m a very busy man.” Suave took another sip and then placed the bottle on the counter. Behind him at the door, Cobra and Daddy Lizard chuckled.
They were laughing at him. In fact, Suave and his men had been laughing at the police for years as they poisoned the country and got rich doing so.
“This is a joke to you, right?” Detective Bird was getting angrier by the second.
“Listen, you have nothing on my people or me. You know why?” Suave then answered his own question. “We didn’t do anything. No disrespect, but you don’t have a clue what you’re doing.”
“Oh, you think I don’t know what’s going on here?” Detective Bird threw his head back and roared with laughter. It took a minute for him to compose himself as Suave, Cobra, and Daddy Lizard scowled at him. “Let me tell you what I know so far, Suave. I know you and King Kong are at war. In fact, you two have been at it for years. I know that the grandfather of King Kong’s right-hand man was killed three nights ago.” Detective Bird’s droopy eyes locked with Suave’s. “I know that King Kong has been robbing you for a few months now. I also know that his partner, Danny, was kidnapped, beaten up, and released. How am I doing so far?”
Suave felt a cold chill run down his spine. Detective Bird seemed to be connecting the dots, and that wasn’t a good thing. “So far, you are only talking nonsense.” Suave kept his composure. “If you had anything on me, I would be in handcuffs right now.”
“You will be soon, my friend. Don’t worry.”
“Are you threatening me, Detective?” Suave’s face was now screwed up in fury. “You requested a meeting with me, and I closed my bar to the public so I could accommodate you. Then you come in here threatening me?” When Suave’s voice raised a few octaves, Cobra and Daddy Lizard moved a little closer.
Detective Bird now swallowed nervously. He came to Rema by himself to meet Suave. He was a police officer locked inside Suave’s bar with him and his two thugs. Detective Bird needed to do some damage control fast. “I-I’m not threatening no one, Suave. I’m just saying if you have anything to do with that old man’s death, you will eventually be arrested.”
The bar was held captive by a haunting silence.
Detective Bird jumped off the stool to his feet when Suave leaned back to take something out of his pocket. With his hand on the gun at his side, Detective Bird’s eyes were filled with fear as he watched Suave, sneaking nervous glances at Cobra and Daddy Lizard, as well.
Suave laughed out loud. “Here you go, Detective.” He held out a business card to the police officer. “That’s my lawyer’s information for the next time you have questions for my partners here or me.”
Detective Bird hesitated before reaching for the card, relief plastered across his face. The next time he was going to make sure the meeting was at the police station where he had backup. “Thank you. I’ll... leave you to your business.” He nodded at Suave as he walked to the closed door guarded by Cobra and Daddy Lizard. “Gentlemen, if you would be so kind?”
Daddy Lizard reluctantly moved to the side, his nose turned up like he smelled something rotten. Cobra turned around and unbolted the door, pushing it open.
“Detective?” Suave yelled at Detective Bird’s back.
Detective Bird turned around and met Suave’s cold eyes.
“Just remember, the next time you threaten me... will be the last time.” Suave raised his bottle in salute.
Detective Bird hurriedly exited the bar and walked out to the street. He noticed
