the clock hits noon. “Are you ready?”

I quickly finish up with the girls. “I’ll be on my cell if you need me or anything comes up,” I tell them.

“If Landon needs help rising to the occasion, be sure to give us a call.”

My eyes widen at Ginger’s comment. The others are nodding with salacious grins.

I roll my eyes. And we think men are immature… “I’ll see you in the morning. You all know what you need to do.”

Landon guides me to the elevator, and we begin our descent. “How’s your team doing?”

“You’ve got some fans among them.”

“That’s good.” He smiles.

“And I’m all caught up on the Landon gossip.”

The elevator opens, and he guides me toward the curb, where Greg is standing with the door open.

“What’s the Landon gossip?” he asks.

“I’m to call my team if I need help getting you up.”

“What?”

I nod. “You’ve made quite an impression on them.”

He reaches the Suburban before I do and pauses to allow me to enter first. “You do a fine job of getting me up, and I’d love for you to get it down.”

I start to protest, but he holds his hand up to stop me.

“All that matters is that I’ve made quite an impression on you.”

I pause a moment. I can’t start the afternoon off flirting, or I may never get to work. “Who were you supposed to be meeting that afternoon in the bar when we first met?”

“A group of guys I went to college with. I saw them. They’re good guys.”

“Oh, that reminds me. I ran into a guy I went to Stanford with. His name is Tomas Vigil. I invited him to meet us for drinks at Chemistry tonight. He might be someone for Claire.”

Landon’s brow furrows. “She’s dating someone.”

“He isn’t right for her. He doesn’t even know who she is.”

He jumps back a bit. “What?”

“He hasn’t Googled her.”

“So what?”

“He thinks she works in marketing for a startup. He’s not that into her if he hasn’t looked her up.”

Landon considers this. “I suppose you could be right. I’m reserving judgment, though.”

“That’s fine. I’ll let them figure it all out.” I turn and look at him. “I wanted you to know he’s coming, and that I was clear with him about my status. I’m keeping my part of our deal.”

“I appreciate that. I like that you told him you were seeing someone.”

“I understand you told Lori Laine the same thing last week.”

“How did you know?”

“Like I said, I’m up on the gossip. Danica’s best friend was behind you in line at Paradise. She also said Lori had a fit after you left.”

“I haven’t seen it in the gossip pages, at least.”

We pull up in front of his building. Dee greets us when we enter and hands Landon a large paper bag.

“What’s for lunch?” I ask.

“You’ll see.” He holds the bag away from me.

I pretend I don’t care, but once we get into the elevator, I try to be stealthy and look in the bag.

Landon shakes his head. “I’m learning a lot. Surprises are hard for you.”

“You’re part evil, you know that?”

“Wait until I have you naked and tied up. I’ll show you evil.” He winks.

“Claire may not allow that.”

“I’ve already figured out a plan for Claire. Don’t you worry.”

The elevator doors open, and we walk into the kitchen. I set up my computer, and Landon takes our lunch out of the bag. “Vanessa said this is your favorite.”

I grin. “It’s a Chinese chicken salad from Pang Tom’s?”

Landon smiles, and his eyes twinkle with mischief.

“You play dirty.”

“Just you wait. I’ve got lots of tricks up my sleeve. You’ll be begging for it long before our six months is over.”

“Who said I wasn’t already?”

He puts the salad down and steps in. “Then why are we waiting?”

“You know exactly why.” I stare him down a moment, and he finally steps back.

He hands me my salad. “I understand.”

Chapter 7

Landon

I’m just a few days into this whole friendship-first thing with Tinsley, and Jesus, it’s going to be near impossible.

Not having sex will be difficult, but being close to her and not being able to explore may be more than I can do. Her face when she orgasms is burned in my memory, and I want to see it again and again in person.

I can do this will be my mantra.

Still, for the last two days I’ve struggled to keep my focus on my work. We need to integrate the translation technology into our software. It’s not working, and I’m not paying enough attention to see where the errors are. As the clock hits six, I stretch my legs and go check on Tinsley out at the kitchen table.

“How did it go today?”

“Great. A few more days of five hours of uninterrupted coding, and I may catch up.”

“Tomorrow is Saturday. Let’s plan some time together.”

She looks at me like a deer in the headlights.

“As friends. We can wander the Union Station Farmer’s Market, and then we can come back here and work. How does that sound?”

She gathers her belongings and packs them into her bag. “I suppose that’s okay.” She eyes me skeptically. “What time do you want to meet?”

I shrug. “We can have breakfast together. Do you prefer breakfast in bed?”

She laughs. “You’re going to make six months seem like six years, if you’re not careful.”

“I aim to please.”

Her eyes dilate, and she bites her lower lip.

I put my arm around her and rest my hand on her hip. I drink in her smell, wanting so much to lick and bite her neck. “I’m all about pleasing and satisfying.”

She regains her control and subtly
