change Landon’s name in my cell phone. I can’t confuse the two.

“We’re so excited you’ve joined the kids,” Edna tells me.

“I’m excited, too.” I turn to Cameron. “This is Cameron Newhouse. He’s the technology partner with our investor. He’s helping me get some things with my software figured out.”

Cameron has been packing up his computer and stops to shake their hands. “So nice to meet you both. We’re excited about what Disruptive is doing.”

“I can’t wait to buy in myself.” Peter rubs his hands together.

Cameron has zipped up his bag. “Great day today,” he tells me. “I’ll see you at our offices tomorrow at nine?”

“Sure. Should I bring coffee or anything?”

“Only if you like something in particular. Otherwise, we have almost everything in our kitchen.”

“All right. See you in the morning. Thanks so much.”

I step toward the elevator and watch Cameron leave as Peter and Edna turn their attention to their son.

Landon’s mother gives him a hug so tight and long that you can see the love.

“Welcome to San Francisco,” Landon tells her. “How was your flight?”

“Just beautiful. We’re so spoiled on that private plane you sent.”

“Glad it works for you.”

Peter and Edna wander off with Claire and Landon. I clean up my computer and all the trash from our lunches before I head back to my room.

I need to give them some family time and clear my mind, so I pick up my Kindle and begin to read a fun, steamy, romantic suspense novel. We had a late lunch, and I can grab something later if I get hungry.

I’m so completely engrossed that I jump at the knock at my door.

“Are you joining us for dinner?” Landon asks as he ducks his head inside.

“No, I thought you’d like to visit with your parents. I don’t want to intrude.”

Landon steps into the room and closes the door behind him. “Are you okay?”

I nod, feeling shy all of a sudden. I want to reach for him, but I put my book aside and stand up.

He leans down and kisses me softly on the lips. “Please join us for dinner. My dad loves a Greek place nearby, and we’ve ordered a ton of food.”

“You don’t think they want to visit with just the two of you?”

Landon’s face scrunches up. “Definitely not.”

“Okay. Greek food sounds good.”

Landon takes my hand and pulls me out.

As we enter the room, everyone sees he’s holding my hand, and Edna and Claire exchange a look.

“She didn’t want to intrude and was going to hide in her room,” Landon explains, releasing me. “I had to drag her out.”

A look of relief crosses Edna’s face, and an uneasiness settles in my stomach. She isn’t comfortable with a personal relationship between her son and me.

“You’re not intruding. Come on, sit down and join us,” Peter exclaims.

Dinner is fun. We laugh our way through multiple conversations, and I learn all about Claire and Landon as children. My sides hurt from laughing so hard.

It’s gotten a little late, and Claire leaves for home since it’s a work night. Edna and I finish cleaning up the kitchen.

She’s wiping counters down. “Landon likes you,” she says.

“He’s a good guy. And I know Claire is nervous about it, and I understand.”

“She is, but she adores you.”

“As I adore her. I wouldn’t be here without her.”

“You all will figure this out.”

When I finally retire to my room, I change into pajamas and return to my book. My cell phone pings softly.

A picture from Landon arrives: a flaccid, sad penis.

Landon: Missing you.

Landon: Wish you were here in my bed right now.

Me: So close, yet so far away.

Landon: You could always sneak over here.

Me: We can hold out for a few days. Plus, I need some sleep tonight. With you in my bed, I don’t sleep well.

I snap a picture of my right breast and send it to him.

Landon: God, woman. Are you trying to kill me?

Me: I thought that might help your friend reach his full glory.

A short video arrives of him stroking his hard rod.

Landon: I wish I were there, biting, sucking, and twisting that nipple.

I pull the covers back and take a picture of my obviously wet panties with Bob in the shot.

Me: And what would you do with this?

Landon: I’m on my way.

My heart beats quickly. I’m positive his mother is listening and waiting for that. She may be a guest in Landon’s house, but she’s his mother and has both his and Claire’s best interests at heart.

Me: Don’t. It’s a bad idea.

Landon: We’re adults. This is my house.

Me: Your mother doesn’t like the idea of us together.

Landon: That officially killed my erection.

Landon: What did she say?

Me: Nothing, but I think she’s worried about Claire. And you guys haven’t even told her what we’re dealing with at work, or that you think Morgan Bennett may be behind it, have you?

Landon: No. They would find Morgan and hunt him down. They really liked him until he did what he did.

Me: Let’s stick to our plan. We need to keep our distance—for now.

Landon: You know how to put a damper on great sex.

Me: It is great sex, isn’t it?

Landon: The best.

Me: Goodnight.

Landon: Sweet dreams.

Chapter 16

Tinsley

The alarm on my phone wakes me from what I’m sure was a delicious dream, but I have no idea what it was. I slept soundly last night. I was exhausted. I’m still sore, but that’s to be expected.

I put my swimsuit on and make my way to the
