things on with Harriet?”

“Yeah. I need to forget it. We are good friends, that’s all. I crossed a line, and I was wrong.”

“You sure about that?”

“Don’t you have stuff to do, Sarah?”

She stood up. “For what it’s worth, I think you are wrong, Logan.”

“I know Harriet better than you do,” He snapped.

Sarah shrugged, and flounced out of the room. Great, now he’d made her mad, too. Seriously, he needed to pull himself together before he drove all the women in his life away. Sarah was a damn good employee, he couldn’t afford to piss her off—just like he couldn’t afford to fuck up his friendship with Harriet.

Logan

Later that Week…

The last few days had been torture. Something had shifted, and all Logan could think about was Harriet. And it was not in a way a good friend should think about his best friend. Every time he saw her, he couldn’t take his eyes off of her, and every time he closed his eyes, he relived that one kiss. A kiss that had probably been the most terrible of kisses in kiss history. Ugh, no wonder Harriet hadn’t mentioned it, she was probably so grossed out about the whole thing that she had chosen to ignore it altogether.

Then there was the close proximity they were living in. It was torture. Every time he saw Harriet, he had this overwhelming feeling he needed to apologize to her one minute, and confess his love for her the next. Maintaining their friendship, when all he wanted to do was gather her in his arms and make up for that damn awkward kiss, was getting harder and harder to do.

“Two Moscow mules, please.”

“Sure, coming right up.” Logan tried to focus on his work. As usual for a Friday night, it was packed, and both he and Sarah were working flat out mixing drinks. All his staff was in, and they were still hardly keeping up. Honestly, he needed to hire more staff if this kept up.

Harriet waved at him across the room. She was there with the girls for their Friday night get together, and she looked even more stunning than usual. The heat outside had hit steaming temperatures, and there was a lot of skin on show around the table. But as attractive as all the other women were, it was Harriet’s golden tan and long neck that caught his attention.

The woman was effortlessly beautiful, and the simple sheath dress she had on looked amazing. The top showed off her sexy arms and shoulders, and the hem fell mid-thigh, revealing those long, shapely pins. The strappy sandals just about did him in, as her legs looked fantastic.

He finished making the Moscow mules, took the cash from the customer, and then grabbed his pad and went over to the women’s table to take their orders. Harriet’s hand touched his arm as she leaned in to tell him what drink she wanted, and then she got up and headed off to the ladies’ room. He glanced at the others around the table wondering if they had noticed the gesture, and thought it was as intimate as he did. But no one paid them any attention.

Logan finished writing down all the drinks. “What about Lori? Anyone know what she wants?” From the corner of his eye, he saw the woman talking to Sarah and Harriet near the ladies’ bathrooms.

“She’ll have the same as last time.” Katie answered.

“Great. Anything else? You guys want food yet?”

“Hmm, yes. Bring us one of each of the sharing appetizers.” Tashia called out, “I’m famished.”

Back at the bar, he prepared the drinks and keyed in the order of food into the computer for the kitchen.

Sarah returned from her bathroom visit. “How’s things going with Harriet?”

“It isn’t.”

“Does that mean you’re still just friends?”

“Yes, and I intend to keep it that way.”

“Honestly, Logan, you have to do something.”

“No, I don’t. Things are fine as they are. I just need to take my mind off her before I do something stupid again.”

Sarah studied him. “Okay. Well, in that case you need a date. How long is it since you and Cassandra split up?’

He shrugged. “Three, no, nearly four months.”

“Then you definitely need a date.”

“Yeah, I probably do. But as you know, I’m avoiding Tinder.”

“Hmm, I know someone who’d be fun. I’ll set you up.”

He raised an eyebrow at her. “You have a friend to set me up with?”

“Yeah, not everyone I hang out with is gay. Actually, the more I think about it, the more I know she’d be perfect for you.”

“Oh, she would?” Although he hated the idea, Logan thought it might be what he needed. “What’s she like?”

“Ah, I think, it would be more fun if you knew nothing about her.”

He frowned. “Fun for who?”

“Me. And you, too. If I give you a name, you’ll just hop on Facebook and stalk her.”

“Exactly. I should at least know what she looks like, shouldn’t I?”

“Nope.”

“Well, how will I recognize her?”

“That sounds like you’re intrigued?”

Logan looked back at Harriet laughing with her friends, their eyes met for the briefest moment, and then she turned away. “Possibly.”

Sarah clapped her hands together. “Awesome! Okay, when is your next night off? I’m going to arrange everything.”

“Day after tomorrow. Don’t you think you should ask this mystery woman first? Maybe she isn’t into meeting strangers.”

“Oh, she knows who you are. She’s been in here a couple of times.”

Sarah often had friends that frequented Jackson’s, and that immediately got Logan’s mind working. “So, you are really not going to tell me who it is?”

“My lips are sealed, boss.”

“Huh, I must need my head examined, but okay. I’ll give it a try.” He piled the drinks on the tray, but before he could pick it up, Sarah lifted them up onto her shoulder. “It’s okay, I’ll take them, I could do with stretching my legs.”

He watched Sarah pass out the drinks, then she whispered something to Harriet, who stiffened. A few minutes later, Sarah was back at the bar.

“What was that all
