it was nearly black.

Shaun took his crossbow and fired at another one shuffling towards Will. The arrow hit the zombie’s jaw, sending it flying off. But it didn’t go down, and Kim could swear it started to run to Will.

By the time Will finished killing the first zombie, the one missing its lower jaw was already on him. Shaun cursed under his breath and quickly grabbed another arrow.

Kim saw her chance, and decided to take it.

She raised her pistol and shot Shaun in the back of the neck; he never knew what hit him. Falling to the ground, he clutched the bullet hole and gasped for air. Kim walked up to him, closed her eyes, and put another round in his head, finishing him off.

She didn’t like it, but Shaun was just as bad as Will, she reasoned with herself. He was an enabler.

Will was so shocked he turned his focus away from the oncoming zombie and just stared at Kim, wide eyed. By the time he turned his attention back to the zombie, it was already on top of him. He tried to swing at it, but it sank its top row of teeth into the right shoulder.

Kim, hating Will but not wanting him to suffer, raised her weapon and shot the zombie in the head. It was still stuck in Will, as he ripped it off him, taking a good portion of his skin with it.

“What the hell did you do?”

“I’m sorry Will. We were friends once. You have no idea how much this hurts.”

“You bi— “Kim fired her pistol. The bullet left a small hole in between Will’s eyes. Kim felt nothing but pity as Will’s body fell toward the ground.

She turned around to leave, but in her path were three zombies. The noise must have attracted them, she realized.

Kim raised her pistol and pulled the trigger, but nothing happened. She continued to pull the trigger two or three more times. Nothing. She’d forgot to keep track of her rounds, something she’d been taught back to her days in boot camp.

She looked around the woods, seeing that she was now surrounded by six zombies. Not quite the horde they killed back at the camp, but more than enough to kill someone.

Pulling out her knife, she lunged at a zombie straight ahead of her. It slid into the creature’s skull with ease. The next zombie went down just as easily. Pulling the knife out of its skull caused a flood of crimson to spill onto Kim.

Another zombie lunged at her. She dodged out of the way and stabbed it in the back of the head. But another zombie grabbed her arm and bit her. She cried out, and tried to pull the knife out of the other zombie, but it was stuck. It fell to the ground, taking the knife with it.

Kim punched the zombie that was devouring her arm with her left hand, but it was no good.  Another zombie shuffled up to her. She tried to swing her body around to kick it, but her feet were firmly planted in the thick mud.

The zombie bit Kim in the neck, ripping a large chunk of flesh and muscle with it. Kim screamed in agony. For a brief moment, she wondered if she regretted killing Will and Shaun. But before she could come to any conclusions, everything went black.
