out. I press my thumb to the finger scanner outside the front door and hear the click of the lock. Once I’m inside, I head up to E’s room to drop off her trig assignments. I open her door and find her and Emmett laying on the bed looking at her laptop. Two identical faces look up at me, one with a smile and the other a scowl.

“I got your trig.” I tell her.

“Thanks.” She pats the bed beside her, “can I ask you something?”

“Sure.” I sit down beside her and look at what’s on her screen. It’s the list with Adri’s parents on it.

“Do you think it’s time to finally bring Adri into this? Or at the very least ask her what she may know about her parents?” E asks me.

“I think we should start off small and maybe ask her about why her parents are on that list.” I scratch my chin, “she’s still recovering from the shock of your fight.”

“Right,” she nods. “That’s true.”

“I’m going to go over there and get her.” Emmett stands up and stretches, his shirt inching up and showing his firm abs and Adonis belt.

He catches me staring and throws me a small grin. I don’t bother to withdraw my attention and feel myself smiling back.

“Bring pizza back, too.” E demands.

“What?” Emmett looks incredulously, “I don’t wanna go anywhere else.”

“I need pizza to recover, fool.” E snickers as she watches him stomp out of the room. “Sucka.”

I can’t help it as I burst out laughing, their antics and how they feed off each other is fucking funny. They should really have a reality show.

“I heard that!” He screams from the foyer which sends us both into another fit of laughter.

She clutches her stomach and groans, “ugh, this shit is annoying.”

“Sorry!” I cover my mouth with my hand.

“No, don’t be.” She smiles at me, “I love when you laugh.”

Truth be told, before E and then everyone else, I rarely laughed. Sounds depressing and fuck, it really is. I wasn’t a happy person and I hadn’t been in a really long time, if ever before Ember.

“You stopped smoking.” She says to me.

“Yeah, they can kill you.”

“True dat.” She nods. “Any ideas on what this list means?”

“No, I really can’t imagine. I can’t see Adri’s parents having anything to do with babies, they didn’t even want her.”

“Harsh.”

“It’s true. As soon as they could get the fuck out, they did.” I say.

“Do you think they gave a baby to Talia?” Her eyes widen. “What if they had another one and didn’t want it?”

“Holy shit, you could be right.” I nod.

I look at the rest of the list but it’s people I don’t know and they certainly don’t live in Whitsborough, but they could have at one point.

“These people aren’t in Whitsborough.” I point at the list.

“Could it also be surrounding areas, like Toronto as well?” Her finger hits her mouth, “your dad was the Head for there.”

“Yeah, you’re right. It could very well be people that live around there.”

About an hour later, I hear the front door open and Emmett with Adri come up the stairs.

“Ember!” Emmett yells out, “your boyfriend is a bitch, he won’t let me pretend I didn’t get pizza.”

“Watch your mouth, little man.” Vin sneers, “I’ll put you over my damn knee.”

“Now, now baby.” Emmett purrs, “don’t make promises you can’t keep.”

“Is it weird that I’m slightly turned on?” E whispers to me and I fall back in another fit of laughter.

Vin comes in and crawls up the bed to squeeze himself between E and I. He tucks each arm under our heads and brings us into him. “I love my family.” He says in contentment.

“What took you so long?” E whines, “I texted you to come over here when Emmett left to get Adri.”

“It’s my mom,” he pulls his bottom lip into his mouth. “She’s been really sad since we had that talk with her.” He looks at me.

“Really?” I sit up, “is she okay?”

“I think she’ll be fine, but reliving that shit put her in a funk.”

“Understandably.” E nods.

“Hey guys,” Adri sticks her head in the room, “another meeting?”

“I promise it won’t be as traumatizing as the last one.” E winks at her.

Adri nods and comes into the room to sit at my feet. She’s wringing her hands and looking nervous.

“What’s up?” I ask her.

“I’m hoping I don’t hear anything about having to kill someone else because I just need some time to process the last one.” She whispers.

“It’s not.” E reassures her.

Emmett struts into the room with three pizzas and a stack of plates. “If this shit tips, you are all getting up and doing the Opa.” He points at E, “especially you.”

“Bring me food now, fool.” She grumbles.

After making sure E was fed and Emmett was done with his grumbling, we all watched as E opened the laptop.

“Adri,” she motions her over. “Come look at this list. I believe your parents are on it.”

Adri’s face scrunches in confusion and she goes to sit beside E. We all watch as she looks over the list and the confusion on her face worsens.

“Those are my parents.” She nods, “but why is the list titled ‘Babies’?”

“We’re not exactly sure,” I answer her, “we just have theories.”

“You and your theories.” Emmett grumbles, folding his arms across his chest.

“I’m sorry about the whole Carm thing. I was just trying to see things at all angles, I should’ve considered your feelings.” I say to him.

“Wait,” Adri exclaims as she moves closer to the screen. “I also know this couple, Sandra and Leon Telis.”

“Who are they?” Ember asks her.

“Sandra is a distant cousin to my mother.” Her mouth puckers up in thought. “What is the theory?” She looks at me.

“Okay, we know your parents didn’t really want kids.” I begin, “could they have had another child by accident and given it away?”

“Impossible.” She shakes her head.

“Wait,” I hold up my hand. “Think it through. They barely wanted to raise you.”

“All that is true.” She nods, “but
