Text to Rick - I may have added some seats to your account for tonight. Hope you don’t mind.
I run up to the member’s lounge and catch all my girls in line for beer. I tell them about the problem and how I need help, so I’m not singled out causing a problem for Seno on the field. I don’t want him on the DL or suspended again. We all leave the member’s lounge with two beers each and head down to the seats behind home plate. We haven’t talked in so long, it’s a nice departure from watching the game and cheering by myself. I catch them all up on traveling to the away games and of course that Seno now lives with me and I show them my access card. They all tell me how good I look and that the changes are definitely agreeing with me. It’s great having Meli, Dina, Sandy’s wife Shan and a couple of the part-timer’s, Jenn and Rona hanging together and cheering as a team. Carter checked on us to make sure we got seated and brought down bags of peanuts, buckets of popcorn and some hot dogs.
Rick was already out in the bullpen warming up our starting pitcher, Grace the Ace, by the time we got to or seats. I hope I didn’t screw up his game. The girls and I make a plan, so we will all yell and clap together. The beer may be making it more fun than it really is, but what the hell! Why not have fun at the game?
Rick walks across the field from the bullpen with Corey and looks straight at me. He gets a weird expression on his face and walks all the way to the net in front of me without stopping. “Do I want to know?” Rick asks unsure.
“Probably not. There are six of me tonight.” I smile at him and I’m already buzzed.
“It’s hard enough to handle one of you, my queen. And, you’re all buzzing already. This is going to be a fun game.”
“Hey, whatever you do, you have to do for all of us or to all of us, or this plan won’t work. So, if you want to kiss me through the net, make it on the cheek and be prepared to kiss each of us on the cheek. Get it?”
“I love you, all.” Rick shakes his head, turns and walks away.
We all yell in unison, “Make it a win!”
Rick turns back and looks at us, unable to keep the smile off his face.
Jenn and Rona hadn’t met my Rick before, “He’s really cute up close,” Rona drools.
“You should check out Chase Cross. Total sweetheart, better age for you, available, and easily controlled by baked goods.” I suggest as I look at her and think they’d make a cute couple.
“You mean the centerfielder?” Rona confirms.
“Yes.”
No action in the top of the first inning. Chase is leading off for the Seals and walks into the on deck circle, swinging his bat with time to spare. “Chase!”
Chase looks up and walks over to the net, “How are you today my lovey? And, who are all these women?”
I smile, “There are six of me today, just avoiding a problem with the visiting team.” I run through everybody introducing Chase and then I get to Rona, “And this is Rona, she gets my stamp of approval. Get it?” she smiles with a shy expression on her face.
“I get it. Do you bake, too?” Chase asks Rona. She nods and Chase gets to work.
“I don’t know why I nodded. The only baking I’ve done is pre-made cookie dough.” Rona laughs.
“I can teach you if you end up needing to learn.” I laugh mostly because I probably don’t need more beer, but also at the young girl that went flush talking to Chase. Kids!
We all cheer for Chase together and for Martin and of course louder for my Rick. But the game is pretty tame until the beginning of the third inning when 77 comes out on deck ready to lead off the inning and walks up to the net.
“So, do you ignore all the players or just me? Give me a chance and go out with me tonight. I promise you won’t regret it.”
In unison, “Sorry, you’re on the wrong team. Bye-bye!” Loudly and of course Rick heard it. He hangs his head and laughs.
The game picked up after that. We may have relieved Rick of his worry so he could focus on the game. Carter shows up during the next inning with a dozen beers and he has apparently been enjoying the show.
No score and it’s the top of the fifth, 15 is leading off for Colorado and walks over to us at the net, “Why are you ladies stuck on the Seals?”
In unison, “Colorado sucks!”
“You should let me show you how good I am at sucking. You’ll never forget me and you’ll want me again.”
In unison, “Fuck off, asshole!” 15 walks up to the plate and we plot against him. As soon as he’s ready to hit, we chant, “Suck, suck, suck, suck!” and laugh uncontrollably. 15 strikes out looking and Rick looks back at us giving us a thumbs up. I love that my girls are able to see what games with Rick are like for me, well sort of.
Bottom of the sixth inning, still no score. One out, Martin on second and a newb running for Mason at third base. My Rick is swinging his bat in the on deck circle and making faces at us because we’re loud obnoxious drunks. As he walks up to the plate, “We love you, Rick! Knock it out, baby!” In slightly slurred unison. And he does just that on the first pitch. We all jump up and scream different, finally coming together with, “That’s my man! Go Seno!” The newb scores with
