token. It is an offer of protection and acceptance, and it is extremely rare.”

“So, I have an actual, real-life Faery Godmother?” I blurt out, looking at the ring again as I slide it onto my finger. It glows a bright pink and adjusts itself to fit my finger perfectly.

Fortuna is smoking again and Glenda seems to think that’s as good a time as any to leave. She places a small, old-fashioned drawstring bag on the counter and bows again to Fortuna before ushering me out the door and back into the sunlight.

In my old life I was just Ronnie..

Now, I’m apparently THE hottest commodity a shifter community has ever seen. Multiple groups of men want to claim me and pledge their undying servitude and love to me, I am protected by a combination of shifters and the Fae, and people keep giving me jewelry that has mystical properties. It’s enough to give a girl a big head!

Life is never boring in Misty Cove. I might whine about it a lot, but I am kinda getting used to this.

Glenda and I walk in silence, each lost in our own thoughts. I barely notice the stares on our way back to the Clubhouse because I am fixated on my new ring and the possibilities that lie before me. At the gate, I give Glenda a great big hug and squeeze her tight against me.

“I may have some sort of Faery Godmother out there, Glenda, but you’re the best friend that I’ve made here, and I am so grateful for you,” I whisper. The older woman hugs me tighter and I swear I can feel a drop of moisture fall on my bare shoulder.

She pulls back and smiles over my shoulder. I don’t even need to look, I know my guys are there. They’re always waiting when I come home from my outings.

“Give them hell, girlie,” Glenda whispers to me. She presses a motherly kiss to my forehead and releases me to face the horde of bikers I now live with.

CHAPTER NINETEEN: TREVOR

TRUE TO HER WORD, GLENDA escorts Ronnie back to the Club property and drops her off at the gate. I can tell that Ronnie’s in a good mood. She’s grinning from ear to ear and I almost forget to breathe.

I don’t know what Glenda did to put that smile on our mate’s face, but I am eternally grateful to her for it. I’m also jealous because I want to be the one who puts a smile like that on her face.

“Guess wha-aaat?” she sings out, admiring a sparkly ring on her hand.

“What’s that, babe?” Bryan and I are both moving towards her but I get there first and take the opportunity to whirl her around and dip her before pressing a kiss to her cheek.

“I have a Faery Godmother! And she gave me a present!” she crows.

She is way too goddamned cute, waving her hand around and hopping around like a kid. I’m too busy enjoying her enthusiasm to catch what she says right away.

“You-you accepted a proposal... from the Fae?” Bryan asks faintly. He looks a bit ill as he says the words and my stomach tightens as my heart begins to beat rapidly in my chest.

I move closer and examine the ring with renewed interest. The Fae are notoriously private, and they don’t give gifts out of the goodness of their hearts. They always, always, want something.

As if sensing our distress, Darren and Earl walk over to see what has Ronnie all in a tizzy.

She looks confused by Bryan’s question, and looks back down at her ring.

“Glenda took me to see this Cat-Witch lady and then she did some stuff and set herself on fire and poof! Pretty golden ring! Then she shifts and turns out HellKitty is actually this ancient old woman who yelled at me about how the Summer Court has given me a Gift to honor my Fae connections. Then she got snarly when I asked questions and Glenda decided we should leave.”

Bryan is the first one to recover. “You went to see Fortuna? And she read you? And you received a gift from the Summer Court? And then you SAW Fortuna’s other form?” he clarifies, sounding awestruck

Ronnie nods vigorously, “Yes, yes, yes, and yes! The Fae thing apparently explains why y’all think I’m hot stuff with my Super Pheromones Jewelry.”

Whoa. This is fucking huge. Fortuna is like a legend around here. The kind of legend who spends more time on four paws than her two legs, and who’ll smite you straight to hell if you look at her wrong.

“Ronnie, what Bryan is trying to tell you is... that’s incredible news. No one has seen Fortuna’s other form in decades. She lives almost exclusively as a cat. And the Fae? Secretive bastards. They don’t interact with this plane much anymore. The fact that all of these things happened to you? You are very special.” I reach out and pat her arm reassuringly and she looks at the ring again in awe.

I turn to Darren and Earl, but neither of them is smiling.

“Double her security. This new development will not only bring more pods seeking favor from the Fae, but power brokers as well,” Earl growls before stomping away. Ronnie’s happy expression melts away and I want to punch him for taking her smile away.

Darren walks over, and looks at her ring with interest. “A beautiful ring for a beautiful woman.” He admires her hand before kissing her cheek and turning to follow Earl back into the Clubhouse.

Ronnie looks unsure, and she is shifting from one foot to the other as if she is trying to decide if it’s still ok to be excited about her gift. I want to kiss the shit out of her and tell her to yell, scream, dance, and be merry. She has been chosen by Fate and the Fae, and that is a big fucking deal.

But I don’t.

We all agreed we wouldn’t pressure her.

She has to make the first
