resist that image.

"Yeah, I'll get in."

"Great."

The distraction Ed and Allan brought let me get my racing heart under control, and I felt relatively calm by the time Doc put a large bandage over the cut. "It's somewhat waterproof," he told me.

"All right, let's go."

The bed shifted again. I twisted my head and saw Doc shoo the guys out of the room.

I groaned as I got up. My body really didn't want to cooperate. Since it was just bruising and soreness, moving around really would help. I pulled my shirt back on and followed everyone out.

Chapter 13

Sofia

I did doze a little on the way to the lake. I woke when the diesel engine shut off. No one said anything about me napping first thing in the morning, and I blinked sleepily. The lake shimmered in the sunlight, and a few fishing boats trawled near the rocky shore.

Nearest us was a boat ramp and a sandy beach. The lake itself was large, and the details of the distant shore weren't super clear. A couple of small islands dotted the middle.

The guys' boat was an old flat bottomed jon boat with a small outboard on the back.

After a quick glance around, the three of them undid the ties that held it on the trailer and easily lifted it from the trailer and hurried down the beach. Once it floated in the water, Ed held the bow line while Allan got a bag out of the back of the truck and put it in the boat.

I had seen men lift jon boats before, but it wasn't usually quite that effortless.

"Easier than using the ramp," Doc explained. He kicked off his shoes and put them in the truck. I did the same and stood on the warm concrete. It would be tough to walk on later, but right now, it was still cool enough that it didn't hurt my bare feet.

I looked at Doc in time to see him pulling off his jeans. I blushed and turned away. He was wearing swim shorts underneath, and now I had an idea of how he had felt when I had pulled my shirt off earlier.

Allan tossed his and Ed's sweats into the truck, and I tried really hard not to stare at their muscular legs. Doc was muscular, but a lot leaner than the two werewolves.

I caught myself staring again as Doc climbed into the cab of the truck. Damn he had a nice ass.

"Be right back."

I went over to the beach while he parked the truck and tried to look anywhere other than at Ed and Allan. My brain just couldn't handle being surrounded by three hot guys at the moment.

"You okay?" Doc came back over to me.

"Yeah, just, uh..." There was no way I was going to tell him what my problem was.

He arched an eyebrow and waited.

Crap. "Um, yeah, I'm fine." I forced a smile and hoped my cheeks weren't red.

He laughed. "Okay, if you're sure. Let's go."

I climbed into the boat and quickly noted the life jackets bungeed to the underside of the seats, a paddle, and an anchor. They had the required safety equipment at least. What I could remember being required anyway. Probably needed some flares or something too. There were a couple of boxes strapped to the side of the boat, so maybe we were covered there, too.

Doc climbed on and sat next to me on one of the benches. Ed walked us out into deeper water and Allan put the motor down and got it running. Once Ed climbed onboard, boosting himself over the bow and climbing lightly over the side, Allan turned the boat out to deeper water. Ed sat in the bow and grinned at me.

We didn't go real fast. The breeze cooled my warm skin, and I enjoyed the feel of the sun beating down on me, without the humidity of most of the places I had lived up to this point.

No one spoke, and I thought we were all just enjoying being out and hopefully, relatively safe.

Allan slowed when we got near one of the islands. "We're not really supposed to swim unless we're close to land per the lake rules, but the islands count. The rangers know us, so they usually leave us alone, unless they want to say hi. Still, we may have company at some point."

He didn't seem concerned, so I didn't worry about it.

Ed unhooked the anchor and threw it out, securing the line to a cleat. Allan backed the boat to set the anchor and then turned off the engine.

I glanced into the water. While not as clear as the fae lake, I could easily see the bottom. It looked sandy with a mix of pebbles.

"How deep is it here?"

"About six feet under us. It drops off fast," Allan answered.

Doc pulled off his shirt, and my heart skipped at least a couple of beats. I cleared my throat and glanced away for a moment. He climbed over the side of the boat and lowered himself into the water.

Ed and Allan also pulled off their shirts, and I was pretty sure my heart would never forgive me. It would probably need some heavy-duty magical healing after this trip from the abuse. No one acted like they noticed my reaction, though Doc was leaning on the side of the boat opposite the boys, arms hooked over the edge waiting for us.

Ed tossed Allan a bottle, and I watched as Allan slathered sunblock all over his brother's back.

"Werewolves sunburn?"

"You do see our extremely northern European skin tones, yes?" Allan's steel gray eyes glinted in amusement.

"I had noticed." I cleared my throat again and blushed.

"We heal it fast enough, but it's better if we can just avoid burning. We don't always manage it." Ed took the bottle back and finished his arms and legs.

He tossed it at me then jumped in the water.

Allan rolled his eyes, then smiled at me. "Mind?" He pointed at his back.

"Not at all."

I tried really hard
