“I’m not even a crier!” Kait said into his ribs. She wiped away her tears and took a deep, smiling breath. “Okay, keep going. I can take it.”
“We’ll stay in New Canton to help Gray get the business up and running again. And then, when you’re ready, we’ll go back to New York. I thought maybe we could start another restaurant. I have a location with a great kitchen.”
“We could call it Le James,” Kait teased. “Basil will really appreciate that. We’ll have to visit him in jail to tell him all about it.”
Landon shook his head. “That’s not going to work because when we get married, I’m taking your last name, Kait.”
She was silent so long he looked down at her to make sure she wasn’t staring up at him in horror. “Oh god,” he groaned. “Are you really crying again?”
“Yes,” Kait sniffled. “Though that was the lousiest proposal I’ve ever heard.”
“Let’s hear you do better!”
“Okay.” Kait pushed up to a seated position and smiled down at him, her eyes watery. “Landon James, now that I know you’re not poisoning half the town in an attempt to run my family out of it, would you do me the honor of becoming Mister Kaitlyn LeClark?”
“That was terrible.” Landon sat up. “Kaitlyn LeClark, now that I’ve given you my heart, my soul, quite a bit of investment capital, and nearly my life, will you do me the honor of giving me your last name so I can forget that Randolph James is my father?”
“Landon James,” Kait said, taking a deep breath. Then, unable to keep up the game, she threw herself at him. “Yes!”
“Yes, I can have your last name?” Landon teased.
“Yes, you can have everything. I love you.” Then Kait tipped her head back and met him in a long, lingering kiss. “I’ve always loved you.”
