speed up any, Joshua?”

“I have my foot to the floor.”

“How long is it to Clayton’s location?”

“They are in central Indiana. From our present location, the map app says it’s a five and a half-hour drive,” Joshua responded immediately.

Trevor blew out air in frustration. “Okay. We have no choice but to proceed.”

“Trevor, do we need to call any of our blood type cousins to ask permission to cross their boundaries?”

He didn’t answer right away. He was gazing at cornfields on one side of the road and soybeans on the other that stretched for miles. Beyond that, dairy farms that churned out milk and butter nestled beside cattle and pig farms. He marveled at humans that planted crops and raised farm animals. They planted crops and butchered animals to eat so they can stay alive, and that in turn made Trevor and the other blood types able to consume them to stay alive. It was like a symbiotic mutually beneficial relationship.

He came out of his philosophical thoughts. “Ask permission? Are you nuts? I would be surprised if the boundaries are still in effect. No, don’t call anyone. If the mysterious caller called us, I suspect they have called the others too.”

Four hours later, Joshua had endured four hours of Trevor snoring with his mouth wide open. The loud noise kept him awake. He didn’t know if he could take another hour and a half of the relentless sound. He took a quick look at the others in the car. They seemed oblivious. Everyone but himself was asleep. Not that vampires required to sleep, but closing the eyes and resting the heartbeat was a great way of preserving their energy.

Joshua was about to wake Trevor to stop him from snoring when he stole a glance in the rearview mirror and noticed they were still being followed. It wasn’t obvious, but the last few turns, several vehicles in the distance followed their route. Coincidence? He didn’t think so.

He pushed Trevor’s large frame, but Trevor didn’t budge. He rechecked his rearview mirror. The cars had sped up and were closer. Much closer. This time he shoved Trevor. Trevor moved slightly, but his snoring continued.

Joshua leaned over and yelled in Trevor’s ear and punched him in his thick arm. “Trevor!”

Trevor was instantly awake, but not alert. He grabbed Joshua by the throat. In a state of panic, Joshua tried to release Trevor’s tremendous grip with one hand and steer with the other. His grip was so tight, Joshua was unable to talk and could barely breathe.

Panic overtook him as their car swerved right and left. He saw a cluster of trees to the right and decided to slam into it. It wouldn’t hurt them, but it would fully wake Trevor up, and then they could deal with the multiple cars speeding toward them.

Joshua drove directly into the path of the trees and crashed the car in the middle of the engine. On impact, their bodies flew forward and then fell back.

“What the hell is wrong with you, Joshua?” Trevor demanded as he saw his car embedded in a tree. “Did you do this on purpose?”

Joshua tried to look at his colleague's vehicles in the rearview mirror, but the mirror had fallen off in the crash.  Frantically, he looked in the side-view mirror. Gladly, the other cars had stopped and had come to make sure they were okay.

“We’re being followed by several cars, and for the life of me, I could not wake you to tell you!”

“Let’s see what they want,” Trevor said as his massive frame exited the car.

The multitude of cars slammed into Trevor's vehicles. Several humans from each vehicle left, with more coming out of the trunks and started running away from them.

“Trevor, is it weird that the humans are running away from us with fists in the air?”

Trevor, Joshua, and the hordes of vampires raced after the humans. Trevor grabbed a human and turned her around. “Look at their left wrists, Joshua. They belong to the Fellowship of the Fangs.”

Joshua didn’t need to use his keen eyesight to see. “Why do they have blood droplets just below their fangs?”

Trevor sped to a few humans and dispatched them with ease. He saw Joshua up ahead. He raced to Joshua.

“The higher up they are in the organization, the more blood droplets they have tattooed on.”

They were making mince-meat out of the humans as they spoke. More ran away, but Trevor and his vampires caught up with them.

“They must all be low-leveled members,” Joshua stated.

“What makes you say that?” Trevor asked as he chased a human and put an end to his existence.

“Most of the ones we took care of had only one droplet. I don’t see anyone with more than two droplets,” Joshua remarked casually as he dispatched another human.

More ran with Trevor, Joshua, and the others pursuing them.

A sudden realization came to Trevor in midstride. The Fellowship of the Fang members were tactically forcing them away from their cars. So far away that, even at high speed, Trevor didn’t think they would make it back in time. “Retreat! Everyone retreat back to the cars!”

“What? What on earth for?” Joshua said in disbelief.

“The Fellowship of the Fangs was a ruse to throw us off! We were set up for the real attack!”

The pouches descended from above seconds later. The orange mist was already hitting the ground when Trevor, Joshua, and the other B negative vampires approached their cars. They started to cough, and the vomiting started immediately. Blood trickled out their body cavities. They never made it inside the vehicle. Instead, the lifeless bodies sprawled in various positions. Trevor’s’ orange misted hand still grasped the car door handle while his body laid upon the ground with the orange mist covering his entire corpse.

Clayton was sitting on the stoops outside the clinic, gazing at the sky. Night time had arrived, and the electricity had been turned off to make sure prying eyes wouldn't see the building’s illumination.
