I smiled at her with my forehead and stared at her. Bree made no mention of going away and I assumed she trusted me at least a little bit.
- First of all, those laws are archaic, as well as ridiculous. - I whispered taking a break. - Second, I have my ways of proving that I have a woman and it's not by her satisfied look.
Bree snitched at me with his gaze. She walked away from me, staying at a safe distance. I mean, so she thought. Just a few steps from me and Bree couldn't escape me. I intended to prove that to her in time. She smiles at the thought of how much fun it would be to seduce her.
- You're a pig, you know that? - she shot me, making me turn my thoughts away. - I can't imagine how I haven't gotten any news or rumors of your son lost in those valleys.
I made a face for her comment. A child was something that was really out of the question and I always took great care that it didn't happen. I never thought of having any concrete relationship that would make me start a family, although that was the duty of every man in my position. Ensuring that my lineage proliferated was something I had never really thought about, so that would be the greatest of my challenges.
- Here's our plan... - said changing the subject. - We'll get married tonight and leave at dawn. When we get to Dunhill, we'll explain our plan to Alistair and leave for London. You obey me and only me. It's my only condition.
- But it's my plan! - she fired with indignation. - I give the orders!
- Yes, but you have a tendency to be impulsive and untimely, so someone with more balance, like me, will be in charge of this mission.
- You? Balanced? - she let out a laugh. - He's an idiot, that's what he is. A bully. A fool...
- Jesus! I didn't know you had so many predicates. - I said with pretended indignation. - Have a good rest, dear bride.
I turned around and walked out of the tent. Silently I started to count to three. Bree's scream of anger echoed out of camp and I let out a laugh.
- Alec! - I heard her screaming from inside.
I kept laughing as I walked. I was too distracted and only noticed the confusion when I heard a buzzing cut off the air. An arrow landed at my feet and I took a step back.
- Get down! Get down! - somebody screamed.
I looked ahead and saw when some men invaded the camp screaming and shooting arrows. I jumped when I saw Bree coming out of the tent and prevented her from being hit by an arrow.
- Is everything all right? - I asked you still lying there about her.
- Yeah, but do me a favor and get off me. - she shot me pushing. - What's going on?
- It's an attack. - I answered by pulling it to one side so we could arm ourselves.
- That's impossible! - she responded by taking a bow and shooting. - Our camp has never been attacked since the start of the siege. Roy may have most of the men, but he knows he wouldn't win outside the fortress.
- Then he must have a great reason to risk his men like this. - ...I answered in a more ironic way.
Taking a bow that was close by, I started shooting arrows too. Some soldiers fell close to where we were hiding, between the tent and some barrels of supplies. A thought crossed my mind. It could only be Oliver's motive for the attack.
- I need to get to the prison.
- Why is that?
- Because something tells me they came to release our prisoner. - I answered the screams. - I think he's more valuable than I thought he was.
Bree looked from one side to the other and took a sword that was lying nearby. She gave me the sword.
- Go ahead! I'll cover you. - she said. - Go towards those barrels and try to attract as many soldiers as possible.
I looked at the pile of barrels in the direction she was pointing.
- What's in the barrels?
- Gunpowder.
- Gunpowder?
- Yes, gunpowder! - she answered by hissing. - Now, do you want to get going?
I nodded and stood and ran in the direction she said. Several men on horseback came after me.
- Alec? What are you doing? What are you doing? - Keilan's voice echoed in the distance.
The men's cries were deafening, but I realized there weren't many of them. The goal was really to serve as a distraction.
- Go after Oliver! - I screamed back.
Keilan ran towards prison. A man approached me and I struck a blow that knocked him off his horse. When I reached the kegs and passed them a few meters, a huge explosion caused my body to be thrown to the ground a few meters further on. I lifted my head up, making a face of pain. My ears were buzzing from the noise, but I didn't seem to have broken bones. I got up to see the damage. Countless bodies were scattered where the barrels exploded. The survivors began to flee in fear of a new explosion. Smile, looking in the direction that Bree was fighting a man. She killed him and headed towards the next one. Others joined her
