The man widened his eyes, perhaps because he recognized me or not, but he dropped his sword and went out shooting. Unfortunately, he died on the tip of another soldier's sword.
- They started the party without us! - ...he said by holding Alistair's hand.
He rolled his eyes holding my wrist and pushed to get up.
- You're late! - he fired ironically.
- Your Majesty! - Aila said approaching.
- I see Phillipe was more than reasonable. - Alistair said smiling at Aila.
- It took a little work, but, yeah, we were more than successful. - she answered. - Have you seen my sister? As for Keilan, any news?
- I haven't found Keilan or Aileen yet. - Alistair answered by taking the sword. - They were on the east side and opened the gates. All I know is, Keilan surrounded the tunnel you mentioned.
- The only way out is through the gates that are taken. - I completed with a smile.
- Exactly! - Alistair nodded.
- Then Roy has nowhere to run. - Aila smiled. - That's great news!
Settling down, we look around us. The castle was all taken over and the few men left were already beginning to surrender. All we had to do was find Roy so it would all be over.
- Let's go to the south tower and find Roy and make him surrender. - Alistair fired. - I know you want revenge as much as I do, but try to bring him back alive.
We were about to respond when Alistair interrupted us.
- Every man deserves a fair trial, and as a king, I make a point of judging him properly.
Snorting, Aila and I nodded. Before we began to enter the castle, however, a scream echoed in the air and a cold voice called my brother's name.
- Alistair, you bastard!
We looked up and the vision we had did not please us at all. Roy was speaking behind Aileen, who was under the threat of a dagger leaning down his throat.
- If you want your sister-in-law alive, send your men to end the attack.
I felt Aila's body stiffening and she became tense.
- Oh! Oh, my God! - Aila whispered in desperation. - He got my sister.
Where we were Roy had no vision of Aila. Only Alistair and I were in his focus.
- Alec, get ready! - Alistair said he was turning to face me. - Roy has nowhere to run. We'll climb the tower and you'll support me...
Alistair couldn't say anything else because a strong blow caused him to fall disagreed on the ground.
- What are you doing? What are you doing? - I asked Aila, who let go of the stone in her hands and took Alistair by the arms.
- I'm sorry, but I can't let Roy kill Aileen! - she said, pulling Alistair into an alcove. - Stay here and take care of Alistair. I'll go up there and kill Roy.
Pulling the sword, I stood in front of Aila.
- I can't let you do that! - said pointing the gun at his throat.
Aila stared at me taking a deep breath.
- Get out of my way, Alec! - she ordered. - I'd hate to hurt him!
- Aila, you heard Alec! - I argued. - Roy deserves a fair trial.
Aila squeezed the sword handle hard. She was irreducible.
- Don't do this, please! - I did.
- I'm so sorry! - she said, before she attacked me.
We had a dangerous crash. I tried at all costs not to hurt Aila, but she was so angry with Roy that it was clear that she would pass over me anyway. However, I noticed that her blows were cautious and that she didn't want to hurt me, just hit me to get a chance to pass. A scream made me lose focus and by the time I saw it, I was already on the ground.
- I'm sorry! - she said with her voice embargoed. - It's for your own good.
Before I could do anything, Aila hit me with the sword handle making me fall on my stomach.
- I love you! I love you!
That's all I heard before the darkness took over my vision.
Chapter 28
Bree
My breathing was getting heavy with every step I took down the stairs. I watched with caution, tripping over the bodies of soldiers along the way. Apparently there was no one else in the tower but the man I was looking for.
- Let go of me!
A female voice echoed from inside a room. There were fragments of stone scattered across the corridor right in front of the door. That meant that that was the first tower to be hit when we entered the bay and started the attack. Roy must have stayed there for the whole event, which didn't take long to develop in our favour. I knew the Phillipe fleet would be our only chance of victory. After his request to consider what I was saying, I went to my quarters and was worried until dinner. Alec had been kind enough to try to calm me down, but even her efforts had no effect. I was surprised to discover that Phillipe had had a banquet prepared in honor of his lost daughter. The English court revered me, but there were those who did not like to know that the king had heirs. We talked a lot of the night and Phillipe agreed to help us. Alec had to make a series of deals, but what
