just say I believe what you’re telling me forargument sake, I don’t even know where to find Ryan. He took theplane early this afternoon for a business trip.”

“We all know it’s your plane, get theinformation from the person who filed the flight route, find himand get him here. Three hours Alicia. That’s it and that’s all.”Jason hung up the phone and set his alarm on his watch for 6o’clock pm.

“Well, part one is done and now it’s time togo and prepare for part two. I need to go and talk to my parents. They’ll need to be brought up to speed and then I’ll need to geteverything set-up for the press conference.”

“Shouldn’t we wait before we set-up a pressconference? Do you not think that she’ll be able to convince Ryanto do the right thing?”

“No, I’m pretty sure she’ll get him here. She’s just as ambitious as Ryan. But, you should never make athreat you are not prepared to follow through on. I said 3 hoursand I meant 3 hours. So, just in case we need to go through withthe press conference, I need to get it set -up.”

Vicky nodded in agreement, “Okay. Iunderstand. Then, what do I need to do?”

“You…you are going to let me walk you back toAngel’s room and spend time with our daughter. I’ll take it fromhere.” Jason kissed her temple. “Let’s get moving we don’t havemuch time and I’ve got to make a few calls.”

Jason walked Vicky back to Angel’s room. Oncethere he kissed her lips before asking his parents to step into thewaiting room for a private word with them.

Chapter 19

Sandy and Franklin spent several hours at thehospital before they decided to head over to their hotel tochecked-in and get cleaned up. As they rode over to their hotel, both seemed lost in their own thoughts.

Sandy couldn’t imagine what Vicky must begoing through. She knew if it felt like a bad dream to her, it mustbe an incredibly bad nightmare for Vicky and Jason. Seeing thatbeautiful little girl laying there, so still and helpless, drainedof all color would be too much to bear for anyone. What type ofperson wouldn’t do all they could to help her? Sandy had known itwould be a long shot that she’d be a donor match but you’d have tobe a soulless bastard to not even try. That little bit of hope wascompletely dashed when the results came back unsuccessful.

She still couldn’t believe that Senator RyanCarter was Angel’s father. He seemed like such a good guy. Or, atleast as good as you’d expect a politician to be. He seemed just alittle more authentic than the rest. Senator Carter had always beencaptured with and without the media cameras helping the homeless, feeding the needy, and fighting for the everyday working person. So, was Sandy shocked that Senator Carter was a jerk? Not really. But, she couldn’t help but be a little disappointed. Not only that, who knew little naïve Vicky Martin could make not one, but twopowerful men fall for her. Maybe she should start taking lessonsfrom Vicky because her love life was shit.

“Hey, you okay over there?”

Sandy was so wrapped up into her ownthoughts that she’d almost forgotten that Franklin was in the limowith her. “Umm...no. I was just thinking that Vicky and Jason don’tdeserve this. They’re such good people. It seems like right whenthey were trying to get their footing, BOOM this tragedy happened. It’s hard to watchthat little girl fight so hard for her life. All those machineswere… it’s all just so depressing.”

“Yeah, I can’t even begin to explain how hardit was to sit back and not be able to do anything. I know Jason’sgoing crazy. He’s fallen so in love with that little girl. I neverthought I’d see the day that Mr. Jason Rutherford III would be adoting husband and father. I always expected when he did havechildren that the nanny would handle everything. ”

Sandy couldn’t help but be attracted to thisFranklin. He was being…normal and not such a hard ass. She was surenot many people got to see this side of him. “Really? Why? Jasondoesn’t seem like that type of person.”

Franklin’s eyes followed Sandy’s movements asshe crossed those very long and shapely legs. She was stunningwithout even trying. He wondered what it would feel like to havethem wrapped around him. Franklin shook those thoughts out of hishead. The last thing he needed in his life was a woman. Especiallya woman like Sandy, it was obvious she was trouble with a capitalT.

“Franklin? H-e-l-l-o?” Sandy waved her handsin front of him to get his attention. He’d seemed to have driftedoff in mid-sentence. Men were so easily distracted. She wasstarting to think something was wrong with her that she couldn’teven keep the attention of a man for more than ten minutes.

Franklin was embarrassed when he thought thathe’d been caught ogling her but was relieved that he hadn’t been.“Sorry, I drifted off for a second. Anyway, I’ve known Jason a longtime. In all that time he’s never dated anyone like Vicky before.Vicky seems like a warm and sweet person. The women he dated wereall so cold and most likely couldn’t be bothered to paint their owntoenails let alone change a diaper. Add to the equation that Jasonwas always a workaholic and I just assumed his kids would be raisedby ‘a nanny’.”

Sandy chuckled to herself, “Hmmm…well whatabout you? I would have expected your children would be raised bythe nanny too.”

“What? You think all of us rich guys can’t bebothered to take care of our own children? Well, you would bewrong. Not that I’m ever going to have any but, if I were I’ddefinitely be a hands on dad.”

Franklin had tried to hide it but Sandy saw aquick glimmer of pain in his eyes. She wondered where it had comefrom. At any rate, she felt a desire to comfort him. “Well, itsounds like your fiancée would be a lucky woman to have you as thefather of her children if you ever changed your mind.”

All of a sudden the limo lurched forwardcausing Sandy to fall into Franklin’s arms head first. He
