“And if you have her, you’ll have no more use for me.”
“Once we have the bone knife in our possession, we will kill all the rest of the gods. The world will burn, and from its ashes, we shall build a new world, one where our mother will rule.”
Carefully, I held the Bone Knife, and stepped down.
… And my foot came down on a ceramic plate. As it cracked under my weight, it sounded like a gunshot to me. I shoved Brann down, and quickly hid the knife behind my back. As I slipped the blade down behind my belt, Dian spun around, and smiled at me.
“What do we have here?” he asked playfully.
“It seems like the little bird has come out to play,” Dub said, emerging from the shadows Dothur hot on his heels. “We were coming back to tell you someone else was here, but it looks like she got to you before we did.”
“Where are your guards?” Dothur asked.
“Around,” I said, as I untucked my shirt, letting it drop down over my belt, careful not to draw attention to the slight bulge behind me.
Orin and Weylyn stood from behind the pews directly across from me, and behind Dian. Keegan appeared from behind the wall to my left. Katie rose next, in between the twins and Keegan staring, as Brann got up from behind a pew next to me.
“Oh my goodness,” mocked Dian. “They have us surrounded. Oh, I’m so terrified.”
“Fuck you!” I yelled. “And the fucking Cu Sidhe you rode in on.”
“We don’t need to ride beasts to get around.”
“Why are you here?” I asked.
“The same reason you are,” Dub said.
“So, you’re looking for the knife.”
“Smart and beautiful,” Dian said with a wink. “After our little skirmish, we were waiting to get you alone. Sadly, your little boyfriends never leave you alone.”
“I wonder how you keep them entertained?” Dothur smirked at me.
“We came back a week later,” Dian went on, “and broke through your ward.” And to rub it in, he took hold of his necklace of teeth and shook them.
“You will swallow them all, one at a time. Right after I cut your balls off and shove them down your throat.” It was such a disgusting threat, I couldn’t believe I even said it.
“You’re lucky you weren’t home for out visit,” growled Dothur.
“Fortunately for us, your warlock keeps a very detailed account on all the happenings at the estate,” Dian adds as he looks over to Brann.
“It seems you have been busy,” Dothur said.
“Well, I have to keep up with you three dick weeds, don’t I?” I said nonchalantly.
“As if you could.” Dub barked out.
I gave him a look of pity. “If I remember correctly, you had to be saved by your brothers. After I kicked your ass.”
Dub’s eyes flashed with rage. Smoke begins to trail off his body in all directions, but Dian reached over and punched his shoulder. “She was rather impressive.”
“Fuck you!” Dub hissed, and punched back at his brother – who vanished just before Dub landed the blow, then popped up behind him and delivered a swift kick to his ass. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the Donn take advantage of their bickering, to move back slowly, quietly, toward the exit.
“Calm yourselves,” Dothur thundered at his younger siblings. “All that matters is that she came to us now. There’s just one last thing we need to do.”
Dub moved away from Dian and plopped down on a pew. He glared daggers at his brother. Then he looked over at the Donn, who stopped moving.
Think Keira, how do we get out of this? I’m the fucking descendent of a war goddess, strategy should be something I’m good at. FUCK!
“What do you want from me?” I asked.
“Your death,” Dothur said, his eyes blazing red.
“Actually, what my brother means to say is, we want our mother back. We want retribution. Which only death can bring. However…” Dian said, strolling casually up to me. “I do believe that with the Knife of Donn, we may be able to spare you.”
“What?” Dothur yelled from behind Dian. “That is not the plan.”
“Things change brother,” Dian said. He slowly circled me, leering up and down my body. “I’ve decided I want to keep her.”
“I am not an object,” I spit out.
He reached up and twirled a lock of my hair in his finger, lifted it to his nose and slowly and took a sniff. “You smell of brimstone and roses,” he purred, sending a shiver down my spine. “It’s quite alluring. You are enticingly beautiful, Daughter of Morrigan.”
He turned back to his brothers. “We will find the knife. With it, we will kill the Morrigan where she rules over the dead in place of the Donn, bring our mother back, then kill the Donn.” Dian turns and faces me, “…and we will spare Keira’s life. She will become our bride. "
“What?!” I choked out.
“You can’t be serious,” Dub said. “Stop thinking with your cock!”
Dian pulled a knife and charged Dub so quickly I couldn’t even see him until he was holding the blade to his brother’s throat. “Watch who you are talking to. Remember your place, brother.”
“That will never happen,” I tell him, as I find myself backing up.
“When was the last time you met anyone whose power was a grand as hers, brothers?” Dian said. “She has a fire in her that could be entertaining. Don’t you agree, Dothur?”
Dothur scratches his head and in a few long strides, I find myself backed up against the wall, with him towering over me. “What say you, Daughter of Morrigan?”
I looked up at Dothur, not willing to back down. When I looked into his bright red eyes, all I could see was the blood of my family, a bottomless pool of all the blood that was spilled in the name of vengeance. Dothur pressed closer, pawing me. “Where is this fire my brother
