burned to admit out loud. They both stood there for a few minutes letting it sink in. Rubbing a hand across
his square jaw Kole finally said. "Can't be. She would have felt it too. Its probably
just been too long for you. Right?"
"From the way her eyes went wide and the pheromones pouring off of her she
did."
"Aww hell, man. This isn't gonna be good. You know how our uncle feels about
wolves mating with humans. Its against the fucking rules for a reason Kian, they
usually can't handle it, and get hurt. Sure, Emma is a knockout, but there are
women in the pack that you should take out if you're ready to settle down."
"None of them ever made me hard with a single touch like she just did. Fuck.
Just let me figure this shit out, don't mention it, ok?" Kian asked setting money
down on the bar to cover his tab.
Kayla walked over just as Kian was heading back out the door.
"So, what happened with Emma?" She asked Kole.
"Nothing good Kay, nothing good." Kole said eyes still on the door Kian just left
from.
"Is she a wolf Kole? You know we are supposed to report any rogues to the
alpha so he can check them out." She whispered.
"No wolf, don't worry about it." Kole said careful not to actually lie to his sister as
he settled back down on a stool.Kian drove around town in his truck for an hour before giving in and
looking for Emma's car in a driveway. If she had a garage maybe he would just
have to shift and sniff her out. She smellled like delicious, like green apples, and
vanilla. That could be dangerous though, someone might notice a wolf strolling
around town. Getting shot in the ass wasn't how he wanted to end his night. Just
as he was admitting to himself that he was definitely a certified creeper he saw
the little black car sitting next to a tiny white house. He drove past going to the
end of the block before circling around to make a slower pass. This time he knew
for sure it was her place because the lights inside were on, and Emma was
pacing back and forth in the living room. Probably wondering what the hell
happened back in the parking lot. The look on her face pulled him in though, he
could tell she was going to leave, and he couldn't let her run away.
Chapter 3
Emma heard the knock on the door just as she was heading from the
living room into the bedroom. Intent on packing her clothes and leaving this town
tonight. Nobody had knocked on her door since she moved in. She knew it had to
be Kian, the shock in his eyes as she pulled away flashing through her mind. The
urge to flee was instant, but there was no way to get to her car without having to
go past him. With his senses she damn sure couldn't sneak past, and had no
hope of outrunning him. He could shift in an instant and chase her for miles
without tiring. Emma was a good runner, had taken all the self defense classes
she could, but she was no match for Kian's wolf.
"Emma? It's me" Thinking he was a dumb fuck for saying me he corrected,
"umm Kian, from the bar, I walked you out." Wincing at what a fool he was
making of himself. Taking a deep breath to settle, "I just wanted to talk to you a
minute." That was better, at least it didn't sound like this was his first time talking
to a woman."Like I am supposed to believe that and open the door to you? I don't know you
Kian. I think you should go home." Emma shouted from deep inside the house.
Thinking good mate, keeping herself safe. "Look, we both know what I am. But
you should know that I'm not here to hurt you, I don't even know what you are."
Once the words starting rolling out they didn't stop, and he admitted "I just need
to know what you felt when I touched you. Because I have never felt that spark
with anyone else." Voice getting lower now and almost pained, "Emma, you lit
me up."
Well shit, her gut told her that was all truth. Not scared anymore, just pissed off
that she had to leave a town she just moved to, she opened the door and glared
up into his face, "I am leaving tonight, I won't be here much longer so you are
going to have to find someone else to catch fire with Kian whatever the hell your
last name is."
He smiled, and it did her in. A little lopsided but with straight white teeth, small
crinkles at the corners of eyes that said he used to smile all the time. The frost
was all gone, and those eyes shone a clear blue now. He was sexy as all hell
before, but that smile transformed his whole face. He radiated warmth, and
Emma's knees went weak just looking at him.
Laughing at her he said "Kian Decker, Second to the Alpha, Big Woods pack."
Then sounding more shy than a man who housed a dominant predator inside of
him should be able to. "You are the most stunning woman I have ever seen in my
entire life. Can I please come inside?"Not sure what to say to that she just nodded and stepped aside to let him in. "Do
you have a last name Emma?"
"Lowe. My last name is Lowe. I'm a nurse. No rank or pack to proclaim" She
muttered still caught off guard by his smile.
Cocking his head to the side, "I hear the truth ringing through your words, but I
don't think thats all there is to it."
Eyes on the ground, wringing her hands, Emma took a deep breath and said
something she had never admited to anyone since her father died. "My parents
were both shifters, but my DNA got confused somehow and I have no wolf."
"No wolf?" That couldn't be.
"Not so far, no." Emma said finally looking back up at him. Instead of the anger or
disgust she was brought up to expect, she only saw confusion and then sadness
in his eyes.
