“How you feeling, big bro?” I quietly asked.
He exhaled as he rubbed the back of his neck. “Incomplete.” His gaze rose to Jo. “I need you to look after my mother and little brother for me.”
Jo nodded. “You going to try and look for Nak again?”
“I can’t stop until I find her.”
We all sat quiet for a while. I was kind of sad that my brother was leaving to go back in, placing himself in danger, but I’d never seen him in love before. If this woman was able to capture Rome’s cynical heart, she was definitely the one for him.
“You know… something just came back to me, I don’t know if this will help you or anything, but I believe Nak’s mom is in a nursing home.” Jo said rubbing his chin.
“She told me her mother was dead. I found a death certificate and a place of burial.”
“Naw, they have a really messed up relationship. When her mother fell sick, she put her in a nursing home under an alias.”
Rome stood. “Why are you just now telling me this?”
Jo chuckled. “I’d forgotten till just now.”
Without saying another word, Rome walked away disappearing in the trees. I watched him go, sending up a little prayer for him and Nak. I had never met this woman, but I knew she must be one bad chick to get my brother, who is by far one of the smartest men in the world to fall so hard for her.
Jo shook his head. “I hate to admit this, but I actually feel sorry for the poor bastard.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Nakhti is hell on wheels.”
I opened my mouth to ask him to expound on that, but right then, Robert ran out the house with a huge smile on his face.
“Come quick! Ayana just took her first step!”
We all took off for the house.
Well…
It seems you guys are going to have to check out Rome and Nak’s story for yourselves. I’m sure it’s going to prove to be quite interesting.
But I’d be remiss if I left without telling yall this:
After meeting the Preacher, I looked up the word he’d called himself at first, Qoheleth. It is a Hebrew word that means Gatherer. He’d said that the next time I saw him, the world will be on fire. I don’t want to go into too much detail, to do so would be me taking away from someone else’s tale that I’m sure you all will read soon.
But Jo thought us having to fake our deaths and move to secluded mountains in Canada was the drastic change that was coming our way.
It was not even close…
A storm was coming, and nothing in my life prepared me for what lay ahead of us…
However, the promise Jo made me the day he took me from the hospital would prove to be true.
There was nothing he and I could not face together…

Falling For Rome
Chapter One
Beautiful Surprise
Nakhti
I put the car in park and checked my GPS. This couldn’t be the right address. The big grey building looked as if it had been one of those old industrial warehouses before it was turned into an apartment building. Several men and boys stood outside the building at the door, some looked like they were dealing, and some looked like they were hanging out with the dealers. I raised my eyebrow at a group of young girls in short skirts and shorts that walked by laughing and posing, trying to catch the eye of one of the men.
“Oh hell no.” Reaching in my bag I took out my phone and pressed one.
“What’s up, Nak?” The deep masculine voice came from the other end.
“What the hell, Jo? I’m in the hood.” He chuckled.
“Yeah, I know. Did I forget to mention that?” I sat back in my seat leaning my head back against the head rest. I was too damn tired for this.
“Nak?”
I exhaled. “I’m here.”
“Come on darling, don’t give me the silent treatment. It’s not that bad. I just need you to find out what information he has about me and my family, and then erase it. I don’t give a damn if you have to wipe his whole system clean. Somebody has been digging real deep and my gut is telling me it’s him. We are at re-election time and we can’t afford any slip ups. This guy is buried in mystery, I need to know what he knows before he knows what he knows.” I rolled my eyes.
“So, how am I supposed to get in there? This place is a fortress. Can you get me the blue prints to the building?”
“Already in your mailbox.” Silence came from the other end for just a moment. “I wouldn’t have asked you to do this on such short notice, I know I was pulling you from another assignment and you’ve had no recovery time. It’s just that whatever system he’s working with is impenetrable from the outside. I’ve had the best hackers on the Agency’s payroll trying to crack it. It’s impossible. The only way in is through the front door.” I exhaled, in
