“What do youmean?”
“I mean, are they alwaysgoing to be at war with the purebreds? Will there always beunrest?”
He dropped his head to his chest. “Idon’t know, love. Truly.”
She cupped his face and he met hergaze. He saw love in the sapphire depths, understanding mixed withcompassion. She cared about everyone—from the Blood Wolves to thepurebreds.
“I promise our childrenwill be safe,” he said. “But I can’t see the future. And if you’rehere with me, then I suspect you won’t be having dreams anymoresince we’ll be together. So you won’t know anything that’shappening or going to happen. Whatever comes, we’ll face ittogether, and I’ll do everything in my power to ensure that you’realways safe, and our children are, too.”
She kissed him and then hugged him,her arms around his neck and her face buried in his throat. “I wantto go home.”
His whole body went stiff, and shechuckled.
“Sorry, what I meant to saywas that I want to go to ourhome. It’s been a long morning, and I feel dead onmy feet.”
He dropped to one knee and gestured tohis back. Once she’d climbed on, he hooked his arms around herknees and began to walk toward their home, Mytan padding next tothem. They caught up to Auberon and made their way back to thetunnel.
When they arrived, Wrath helpedTrinity off his back and sent the young male to bring the others upto the surface to meet her.
“Do I look okay?” sheasked, tugging on the hem of her shorts.
“You looklovely.”
She rolled her eyes. “I think you’dsay that no matter what I looked like.”
He snagged her around the waist with agrowl. “You’re not suggesting your alpha is a liar, areyou?”
Her smile was so bright that it warmedhim from the inside out. “I’d never suggest something likethat.”
“We’ll get youclothes.”
She glanced down at his hide trousers.“I wish I’d gone to bed with shoes at least.”
He laughed. “I’ll send some of ourhunters to a human settlement at nightfall to pilfer some thingsfor you. But we have a supply of hides that we can make intoclothes for you.”
“I think you remember thatI’m not the best at sewing.”
In one of their dreams when they wereteenagers, she’d shown him a skirt she’d sewed herself. Itunfortunately fell apart when she put in on the first time, theseams splitting and the fabric tearing.
“Creek loves to sew, he’squite adept at it. I could teach you, but the only thing I makewell is trousers.”
They were interrupted by the sound ofpack members coming up through the tunnel. “Send Mytan away untilyou call for him,” he suggested. “We don’t want to alarm them rightaway.”
“Of course,” she said. Shespoke quietly to the beast, who ducked his head so he was closer toher face. She rubbed her knuckle along his nose. The big beast letout a snort, nudged her once, and then bounded off into thetrees.
Wrath was still amazed by her commandof the creature. He gave Trinity’s hand a squeeze and turned toface his people as they joined them in the grassy meadow outsidethe tunnels. Eleven males stared at him and Trinity in curiosity, waiting to hear what he’d called them for.
Chapter Nine
Trinity couldn’t believe she waslooking at the pack, right in front of her. Because of the dreams, she knew them all even though they clearly didn’t know her. Caelwas the second-in-command. She wondered if he’d told them abouther. Trick was third, and Dare was fourth; she’d seen them in theforest but hadn’t officially met them. The guards—Jenner, Kayne,Brae, and Rook—appraised her with curiosity, but didn’t sayanything. Auberon was a hunter, along with River and Jet. Thehealer, Magnus, was a big male with a black tattoo that ringed hisneck and identified his supernatural healing abilities. Then therewas the lowest-ranked male—Creek, who was River’s brother. Trinityhad always thought Creek was adorable, sweet and funny with aprotective streak a mile wide. His father was a vampire in a kissfrom the area that Trinity knew as Boston. River and Creek had thesame mother but different vampire fathers. Both of their fathershad tried to kill their mother and them. And both had met theirdeadly ends at Wrath’s hand. He had no tolerance for anyone who’dharm one of his people.
And that was the interesting thingabout Blood Wolves. No matter that only two of the males in thetwelve-member pack were related by blood; they still consideredthemselves brothers. Wrath loved each male as if he were closelyrelated to him, vowing to keep them safe through any trial ortrouble. She knew every alpha within five hundred miles by name, and Wrath was far and away the most loyal and fiercestprotector.
He was a threat to the purebreds, which meant that they were always at a state of readiness in casethe other packs attacked. She hated that there was never any peace. She wished that was something she could’ve changed with herstories. Maybe someday they’d broker peace between the Blood Wolvesand the purebreds.
Wrath cleared his throat, and shelooked at him.
“Since I was sixteen, I’vedreamed of my true mate. For the last twelve years, I’ve hadfrequent dreams featuring this beautiful female.” He took her handand brought it to his lips with a small smile. “The witch Isolde, who lives at the western edge of the forest, realized that my truemate was living in another world. She opened a magical portal andbrought her to me. Isolde has saved me from the blood lust that’splagued me for these three years by giving me the gift of my truemate. Her name is Trinity, and she’s mine.”
The way he said that she was his madeher skin prickle.
None of the males said anything. Caelcleared his throat. “Our alpha would never lie to us aboutsomething so serious. I was with them when they spoke to the witch, and I can assure you that she’s not of our world but is our alpha’sdestined mate.”
Dare folded his arms with narrowedeyes. “You’re saying there are other worlds out there? Where? Howare they accessible?”
“Why would your true matebe in another world you couldn’t access?” Brae demanded.
“We don’t know why we’retrue mates
