“She’s at my house. I’m heading back there now.”
“You don’t think…” Hound’s words trailed off but the meaning was still there.
Shit.
Hannah knew about the Fox and Alejandro’s dealings. She was a liability that Brady couldn’t have hanging out there. He would try and get rid of her and he got Ben out of the way. “I’m on my way back home now.”
Ben hung up and raced out of the building for his car. He stopped short when he saw Sunshine leaning against his car. Besides the mission, he had seen little of Sunshine. Was probably still pissed Ben was seeing Hannah. Well boo hoo for him, she was staying and there was nothing he could say to change his mind.
“Sunshine great to see you, shitty timing.”
“Midas, I didn’t come here to fight. I just wanted to tell you that if you want to see Hannah fine I won’t get in your way.”
“Great but I need you out of my way.” He said pointedly at the driver door Sunshine was leaning on.
“Just hear me out.” Sunshine kept going not sensing Ben’s impatience to leave. “I’ve been an ass. I’ve let my failings in my relationship influence my thinking of all women with military guys.
At the end of his rope, Ben grabbed Sunshine by his shirt collar and pulled him off the car. “That’s great but Commander Brady is the one behind the ambush on us in Panama and he is after Hannah who is alone at me house. Now for the last time. I have to go.”
Sunshine looked at him shocked. “Well, then what the hell are you still standing around talking to me for?” Ben rolled his eyes and jumped in his car and Sunshine jumped in the passenger seat.
Ben pulled into his driveway and saw his front door half open. “Fuck,” he muttered before climbing out of his car before it fully stopped.
“Midas,” Sunshine tried to protest as he scrambled to the driver seat to stop the car but Ben was already jogging into his house. The first thing he saw was Cora huddled in the corner and Commander Brady with his back to him. Glass was scattered all over the floor which looked like trophies and awards he had won, but where was Hannah? At Commander Brady’s feet, he saw Hannah trying to back pedal away from him. “Come with me quietly or I kill your little friend.” Was all he heard from Commander Brady. There was no way in hell his woman was going anywhere with Commander Brady. She would probably get dumped back at Alejandro’s feet. There wasn’t a snowball chance in hell of that ever happening. Ben launched himself at Commander Brady and he punched him. This sorry excuse for a man sold out his country and fellow men. He didn’t deserve to wear the uniform. Once he started punching Commander Brady he couldn’t stop. He stopped when he finally heard Hannah calling out his name and touching his arm.
He wanted to keep hitting Commander Brady but knew it wasn’t what Hannah wanted. He stood up and looked her over. “Are you okay?” If the bastard had harmed her there wasn’t a force on earth that could stop him but tearing his commander apart.
“I’m fine. Rattled but okay.” She assured him. “Oh, Cora.” They both turned to look at Cora but she was being seen to by Sunshine. Cora didn’t seem to want Sunshine’s help but he would see to her anyway.
Hannah separated herself from Ben and ran over to Cora. “Are you okay?”
“Not you too,” Cora complained as she batted Sunshine’s hands away.
“It looked like he hit you pretty hard.”
“You should go to the hospital,” Sunshine told her.
Cora rolled her eyes. “Everyone stop. I’m fine. He didn’t hit me that hard. Hannah, are you okay?”
“Yeah, thankfully Ben arrived when he did.”
“Why was that guy here? What did he want?”
Hannah looked at Ben for help. She didn’t know what she could tell her. He wrapped an arm around her waist and gave her his support. “Hannah has been helping us get information on a mole. Commander Brady is that mole and figured out Hannah knew about him.”
“He told me he was taking me to someone,” Hannah whispered to him hoping not to draw the others attention.
“Did he say who?” Sunshine asked.
Now he cared? Before he couldn’t wait for Ben to get rid of her and now he cared what happened to her? The man had serious issues. “He didn’t say.”
Ben pulled out his phone and called the MP’s. They arrived in fifteen minutes and hauled the barely conscious commander away.
“What’s going to happen to him?” Hannah asked Ben.
“He’ll be court-martialed and sent to jail,” Ben told her. He turned to look at Cora. “Do you mind staying with Hannah for a little while? I want to go to base and be there for the questioning.”
“Of course, Ben. You don’t even have to ask.” Cora smiled warmly at Hannah.
Hannah owed her her life. Cora had no reason to risk her life for Hannah and yet she had.
“I’ll stay too,” Sunshine stated.
“That’s not necessary.” Cora rushed out.
Hannah could sense Cora still had feelings for Liam but that didn’t mean she wanted him around. Sunshine watched Cora leave his side and stand next to Hannah. His eyes filled with longing and regret. What was his big secret that kept them apart? It was obvious to anyone they loved each other. So what was the big secret? Ben seemed to know but wouldn’t tell her.
Sunshine accepted defeat and followed Ben out and they followed the MP’s back to base. Commander Brady was first taken to the hospital and had his face looked over. He had a fracture under his left eye and the other was swollen shut. Three teeth had been knocked loose and might lose at least one of them. The rest was superficial cuts.
Ben didn’t care. Commander Brady had earned his beating. For selling out his country
