“I hope you’re right, and the lack of another inheritance doesn’t bother me. I told her that I didn’t need it or want it. We have my father’s inheritance, and that will keep this ranch in good condition for our children and grandchildren. I have more mail to go through. I will see you ladies in a little while,” Blake said and left the kitchen.
Eliza continued to peel the potatoes until the bowl was empty. She handed Sarah the bowl and said, “I’m a bit tired. I think I’ll lay down a while before supper.”
Sarah nodded and smiled as Eliza left the room.
Blake was sitting at his desk when Eliza walked into his office.
He looked up and smiled at his wife. “Did I forget something?”
“No, I just wanted to come in and look over this room. I remember you told me it was meant to be a nursery and not an office.”
Blake nodded, “That was what the architect’s plans had indicated. I think it makes a nice office.”
Eliza ran her hand across the smooth wood of Blake’s desk and asked, “Would it be terribly difficult to move this desk to the library?”
“Why? You don’t like the office next to our bedroom. What do you want to do, turn it into a closet for your hats?”
“No, silly. I just thought it would look nicer with a baby bed than a desk.”
“Why would we want a baby bed…,” Blake’s voice trailed off as he looked at Eliza.
Her smile lit up her face, and her eyes danced with joy, and Blake knew he was going to be a father. His shout of delight caused Sarah to rush in from the kitchen.
“Good heavens, what’s wrong?” Sarah asked.
“Nothing, at all. I need to get busy and move this desk upstairs. We need a baby bed.”
“Not for about six months,” Eliza clarified.
Sarah clapped her hands in delight as Blake lifted his wife off the floor and kissed her.
