“The girls get hurt I’ll hunt you down and rip your face off.” Harley said in a tone that left no doubt he was serious. He didn’t move out of the special agents way. Leander had to backtrack and step over a cot to leave. He’d lost that smug look he’d had on his face. He looked more like a dog running out with its tail between its legs than like someone who’d just pulled off a slick one as he exited the barracks.
“Now what. We’ve got to get Yue back.” LeBron said.
“We will. We’ll kill all these pikers once they tell us where the girls got sent. Then we’ll go get them and we’ll kill anybody that gets in our way.” Blaze said viciously. The man who’d looked so lost a few minutes before was gone. In their place was a leader that Drew knew he could follow. He remembered Yue telling him he could trust Blaze. For now, he would. At least until they’d gotten Yue back.
Authors Note:
Thank you so much for embarking on this journey with me. I hope you’ve enjoyed it so far and are looking forward to finding out what comes next! The start of a new series is the start of a new series of relationships for me. I get requests periodically to go back and add an epilogue to a series. I’d love to be able to easily step back into those worlds again, but I fear when I do, I’ll lose track of the other characters I’m on a different journey with.
The relationship between author and character means at some point you really start seeing everything from the different characters points of view. When confronted with the same challenge I know Drew, LeBron or Yue would all approach it from a different angle. Staying true to those nuances is what breathes life into the different characters. It takes them from a two-dimensional concept to a three-dimensional construct.
One of my favorite parts of this series was that it didn’t start out like a normal zombie book or movie. The characters didn’t just wake up one morning and the whole world had gone to hell. It did so gradually. How do they survive when all the gas pumps have already been drained and the store shelves already cleared off? It adds a whole new element to the story telling.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this new beginning. I write it as I see it happening, but I can see a whole new kind of society rising up to rule in this new normal. Whether it can hold itself together or not remains to be seen. The government had to be ruthless to survive but can it maintain that ruthlessness without sacrificing all of its humanity? I guess we’ll find out.
Also, if you happen to be reading my other Zombies series and saw that we’d welcomed a new baby boy to the world his name’s Brayden and him and his mom are doing awesome!
If you enjoyed this book, please leave a positive review!
