“You better not break my heart.” She wrapped her arms around his neck.
“You have my word.” He pulled her close, pressing his lips to hers and kissing her tenderly. She closed her eyes, content but cautious. She and Davis were from two different worlds. Things might not always be easy and they still had a lot of things to work out but he was worth the effort.

Chapter One
* * * * *
Scarlett rolled her suitcase in through the front door of the quaint, one-story house she rented from her great-aunt Sonya. After closing the door behind her and trekking the fifteen paces to her couch, she collapsed on top of its micro-suede cushions and puffed out a long breath. She was exhausted. In her rush to run away from her problems, she had hardly noticed how long and arduous the drive up to the mountains had been, but on the way home, she had been burdened by every twist, turn and bump in the road. Her time up on Horse Mountain had been so magical, she hadn’t wanted to leave.
While staring at her walls—painted pale yellow up top and Williamsburg blue just below the chair railing separating the two hues—she tried to pull her thoughts together. Davis…he was first and foremost in her mind. Scarlett still found it difficult to believe everything that had happened over the past few days. When she left home just before Christmas, she had been a heartbroken, jilted woman, but she had returned…what? She’d certainly met the man of her dreams, a rugged, sexy cowboy with a heart as beautiful as his gorgeous face, and miracle of all miracles, he was into big girls.
Long, brown hair, sea-green eyes, and a body carved by the hand of God…how could she resist? She couldn’t. She hadn’t. A grin spread across her face as she remembered how cute Davis had been as he shyly released the beast in his pants. A quiver ran down her spine just thinking about it. On the other hand, Davis’s long, thick cock hadn’t been the only animal he was hiding.
Her heart rate increased as she recalled Davis’s big secret. Amazingly enough, he had felt strongly enough about her to share… He was a shifter! She had fallen for a man who could transform into a horse. For that matter, so could most of his family. How was this supposed to work? Every minute of her long drive home had been a rollercoaster of emotions, cycling from joy to niggling doubts, to fear and then to a big headache, requiring a stop at a gas station for aspirin and a slushy. Could she and Davis really make it as a couple?
The ring of her landline pulled Scarlett out of her own head. She reached back over the couch’s arm and felt around the side table until she touched the receiver. While picking up, she sat upright and brought the receiver to her head. “Hello.”
“Scarlett?” The familiar voice on the other end sent her mood into a downward spiral. She frowned, not even wanting to reply to Robert, the asshole who made her waste years of
