I’ve still not spoken with my family since that night. They know… And Ma must’ve definitely overheard, and Danielle thinks that Dermott did too. But if he did, then why didn’t he turn us in? Loyalties with us? Softness in his old age or retirement? We’re not sure, but we didn’t even discuss it. Just a wary look between us that night. Even after finding out that Sargent had confessed… She just wouldn’t acknowledge it. Like she was able to wipe the slate clean.
None of them have attempted contact with me. Nor me with them. I think it’s just the way it has to be. Maybe years down the line… Something could turn us around. But until then, we’re better off without one another. I already ripped the family apart once before; I might as well take myself out of the equation too.

“Thank you so much for taking the time to read my stories and helping to make my dream of becoming an author possible. If you enjoyed ‘Under Construction,’ or any other of my books, please don’t forget to spread the word through word of mouth and/or social media. Also, a review on Amazon or Goodreads goes an awful long way, especially for Indie authors like myself who a lot of people haven’t heard of.”
