She smiles in response.
“What’s L.F.G?” I ask.
“Oh, it stands for Laundering, Fraud and Gambling,” she grimaces.
What the fuck, how are there even classes on that? That’s worse than B.I.C.E, but I don’t say that. I can tell she’s struggling enough.
“Well, that’ll be an experience I’m sure.” I grin, hoping to lighten the mood, and it does make her smile at least.
This whole chat is completely off course. She has me wanting to help her. I don’t help anyone, and I certainly don’t care for others, yet here I am. My gut loves her and that apparently means I now have someone else to worry about.
The food thankfully arrives, and we begin eating in comfortable silence, watching the square around us.
“So Red, is there anything important I need to know?” I ask, once I’ve finished eating one of the best carbonaras in existence.
“What do you know already?”
I shrug, “Honestly? Very little. I didn’t know this was a thing until I was being dragged here.”
I don’t miss the surprise on her face, but then her brain is working overtime trying to gather what information she thinks I may find useful.
“Okay. Okay, so, this whole place is run on hierarchy. The six dorms, even the way the rooms are allocated are based on it. Jokers are at the bottom and Aces are at the top. That stands in the whole underworld too, they have you learn your place at Featherstone. That way no-one steps out of line and causes chaos.”
She barely catches a breath, taking a sip of her drink and carrying on.
“Everyone fears those in Ace. Roman Rivera, Parker, Kai Fuse, Oscar O’Shay and Wren Dietrichson. You had the pleasure of meeting Wren on Saturday and Oscar was the one with your I.D. box. I don’t know if you’ve crossed any paths since, but they say jump, and everyone asks how high. Now you, you’re in Ace based on bloodline, but with you also being a new face I don’t know where you will stand to be honest. If anybody in Ace shows further conflict with you, after the other day, it’s slim they’ll side with you. It’ll likely put a larger target on your back,” she cringes.
The waiter interrupts us as he collects our dishes and leaves us the dessert menu.
Like I’ll be upset to be a lone ranger, that’s all I’ve ever been. I say as much, and she simply shakes her head.
“You can’t be a lone ranger now you have a best friend, Luna.”
She lightens the mood and makes me smile. It’s clear we are both out of our depth at Featherstone, just in different ways. With neither of us actually wanting to be here.
“Did anyone at the High school decide they didn’t want to be there, and just left?”
Her face instantly pales, and she shakes her head frantically.
“No Luna, never, you either leave as part of Featherstone in some way or in a body bag. I saw too many of those in the past four years, Luna. You play by their rules or you die, there’s no in between,” fear etched in her voice.
I don’t know how to get her to tell me more without her breaking down, but it doesn't matter anyway, as a guy scrapes a chair over to us taking a seat at our table with the chair backwards.
“Now, this is a three way I can get behind.”
He meets my eyes and grins.
“I didn’t get a chance to introduce myself properly the other day. I’m Oscar, but you can call me whatever you want, baby.”
CHAPTER TEN
(Oscar)
Finally man, I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for this girl everywhere since Saturday morning with no luck until now. If you’d have told me a week ago I’d be hot for a girl with no make-up on, wearing combat boots with shorts I’d have told you to fuck off. When she pushed Wren in the water so casually it got my dicks attention and I haven’t stopped jerking off to her since.
I just want to jerk in her now, although she doesn’t look impressed with my arrival.
What’s that about?
Everybody loves me, especially the ladies. She’s clearly not heard about my impressive features and refined skills yet.
“Can I help you?” she asks me shortly.
“What’s your name, baby? I only managed to catch your bloodlines the other day.” I counter, but she just rolls her eyes.
I can sense that she wants to tell me to fuck off. It’s a foreign feeling for me, but it only seems to make me more determined for a change. Usually if you’re not an easy target, you’re not a target at all. She must be able to see it in my face that I’m not ready to give up just yet and relents.
“Luna. Now can I help you or are you leaving?”
Hmm feisty. I like it. My cock definitely does. Luna, I like the sound of that in my head.
I can’t help but swipe my tongue over my bottom lip as I take her in. Pink pouty lips, emerald green eyes and soft brown hair, long enough for me to wrap around my fist a time or too.
There it is. I saw it. That little sparkle in her eye, only for a moment but it was there. She likes what she sees, now for me to figure out how to get her up to my speed.
“Baby, I can’t leave yet. I don’t know enough about you. I practically know nothing,” I purr, but like a lion because I’m a beast.
She glances away from me and looks at her friend raising an eyebrow. How is she not putty in my hands right now? My purr always lures them in without fail. A giggle to my right has me glancing at her friend, is she laughing?
At me?
I look back to my girl of the hour and she’s smirking.
“Okay, party boy, you're hot I’m not gonna lie, but your usual charms mean nothing
