Prinie leans in pressing her lips to mine. “I will always fight for you, Talon. Always.”
“I love you, Prinie. More than anything in this world.” I lean in kissing her, putting my everything into the kiss.
She is my home.
My one true north.
She is the puzzle piece who completes me every damn time.
Without Prinie, I’m a fucking mess.
But with her, I can be anything.
I am strong.
I am capable.
I am enough.
And with our family, together, we are all each other will ever need.
WRAITH
A Month Later
Things at the club have settled down dramatically. The Baron is behind bars and as for Damir, he’s gone radio silent. I’m sure he’ll rear his ugly fucking head at some point, but I can’t spend my life worrying about that day.
For now, I am focusing solely on Prinie and our little girl.
As Zero, Cherry, Prinie, and I sit in the main room on Prinie’s laptop scrolling through websites containing baby names, I spot Kevlar on the phone in a deep conversation. His brow line is furrowed with obvious concern. He makes his way over, his face paling, sweat beads his temple.
“You okay?” I ask, grabbing everyone else’s attention.
They all shift their eyes to Kevlar, and he exhales. “That was Ethan. He said the Baron’s been talking in prison, trying to get his sentence reduced.”
Zero grumbles under his breath. “Right… what’s he saying?”
Kevlar cracks his neck to the side like he’s unsure of how to proceed. So, I exhale. “Just tell us, brother.”
“Baron’s sprouting that a cop was working with Frenzy. When Frenzy was killed by the Militia, the Baron hustled his way in and made a deal with the same cop. Said he’d give that cop all the dirt on the club—”
“My father would never rat to the cops. Not even if it’s about the Baron and how much of a cunt that asshole is,” Zero grunts out in anger.
Kevlar winces. “There’s more… apparently the Baron directed the cops to a single brick of Snow White, I’m guessing the one that went AWOL all that time ago. He’s been keeping it up his sleeve.”
“So, it was the Baron who took it,” I grit out through my teeth.
“Yeah, problem is, the cops have it, and the Baron’s pointing his finger firmly in my direction,” Kevlar states.
“You? Why you?”
Kevlar shrugs. “I have no fucking clue. Ethan’s given me a twenty-minute warning. We’ve only just got you out of jail, pres. If I go in… there’s no way an ex-cop like me is coming back out.”
Zero stands abruptly. “You gotta go… until we find a way to figure this out. Get rid of your phone, get a burner, you know how this shit works.”
Kevlar runs a hand through his hair. “Where the fuck do I go?”
“Best if we don’t know. But, brother, you gotta hightail it. Now. Check in when you can. Don’t take your cut. Nothing linking you to the club. Neon, grab Kevlar’s fake identity from the safe…” We all have fake identities and paperwork stashed away in case something like this happens, “… and at least ten grand.”
“So, what? I’m a fucking fugitive now? I have two fucking kids to think about in this!”
“You gotta run because of those kids, brother. Either that or you get put away with the very criminals you’ve locked up. We will keep an eye on your kids. We are your family, and family takes care of their own. You need something, you call the number Neon will supply you with. Do not, under any circumstances, call any one of us.”
“Fuck.”
Yeah.
Fuck is damn right.
