“Now the little one is out of earshot, I need to say my piece. Quite frankly, I’m devastated by the news. Did your parents attend the wedding?” she demanded, turning to face Katy.
“No, in fact, we haven’t even told them yet. We thought we’d share the news with you first.”
“Well, I suppose that’s something.” Cecilia took a step towards her son and held out her arms. “Why do you do this to us, AJ?”
He stepped into his mother’s embrace. “I’m a grown man, Mother, I make my own decisions in life now.”
Cecilia hugged him and then did the same to Katy. “Welcome to the family, Katy. Make him happy, won’t you?”
“We’ve been together over five years, Cecilia, never a cross word between us.”
“Good, keep it that way.”
Reginald passed the champagne around. “To the happy couple. May they present us with more adorable grandchildren in the near future.”
Katy and AJ looked at each other and smiled.
Now that’s a conversation to be held another day. Not right now, though!
