That thought has me clenching my fists for whatever reason.

“Y-yes, I think his club name is Bear,” she says, and I can’t help but look at her in confusion. She’s looking for Bear, but she’s not sure that’s his club name. Who is this chick?

“He should be inside. What business ‘you got with him?” I ask in a don’t mess around with me tone. It usually works with people who aren’t part of the life. You can scare people pretty easily if you use the right tone - something I have learned since becoming a part of this world.

“That’s private. Can I go and see him?” she asks quietly while fidgeting with her hands. She won’t look at me and I don’t like it one bit.

“Sure, darling. I’ll walk you in so nobody messes with you,” I say moving so that I can open her car door open for her. I have no doubt that I will know soon enough what she’s here for. Nothing stays a secret for long around here.

She gets out of the car and I can’t help but notice what she’s wearing. The sweatshirt and pants she has on look like they could fit at least another person in them. I have never seen someone wear something so baggy.

I walk a little ahead of her, but not too far so that I can still hear her following me.

When we walk into the clubhouse, everyone stops what they are doing and looks at me and the woman behind me.

You would think that I had never brought a woman around with the way everyone’s jaws are dropping.

“Yo Trigger! Found yourself a woman? About time!” I hear Steal yell.

I shake my head. “Ah no, this little thing doesn’t belong to me,” I say and watch everyone’s expressions go from shock to confusion.

I scan the room looking for Bear. I spot him by the bar with his Old Lady, Sasha, on his lap. When my eyes lock his, I give him a chin lift.

He looks at me confused. I really don’t blame him because we only ever talk if it is club business. Nothing personal has ever been shared between us.

He walks over to us and Sasha is right behind him.

“Yeah, whatcha want, brother?” He looks at me and glances at the woman behind me.

“She’s here to see you.” I move out of the way. I can tell from here that she’s shaking, but I don’t know what I can do for her. For all I know she’s shaking because she’s in a room full of bikers, but there isn’t anything I can do about that. She came to the wrong place if she’s afraid of bikers.

Sophie

The man in front of me looks just like my dad; there is no mistaking that this man is my family. I can’t help but tear up at the sight of him.

I know that I’m shaking so badly that everyone can see it. I will probably be embarrassed about it later, but right now I’m trying to find the right words to say despite practising them the whole way here. I feel like suddenly I’m at a loss for words. As I suspected, he doesn’t recognize me; it has been fifteen years.

“What can I do for you?” he asks in a deep voice, it’s almost like a growl. Wow, I can really see why they call him Bear. He’s huge and has a very frightening look on his face.

I look around the room and notice everyone is watching us. Wow, talk about being put on the spot.

“U-ummm… Hi uhh… Bear. I’m Nicolas Jones’ daughter,” I say with an awkward wave. Could I get any more awkward?

I watch his eyes widen in shock. The woman beside him puts a hand over her mouth and is giving me the same shocked expression. She must know who I am too.

“Sophie?” he asks in a whisper, tears welling up in his eyes.

I nod my head slightly, but he caught it.

He rushes over to me and wraps me in a hug. I try to breathe through the pain in my stomach from being kicked.

He pulls back and I see that his eyes are full of unshed tears. I can tell that he didn’t notice me stiffen slightly from the pain.

“What are you doing here?” he asks. The woman beside him gives me a hug and says that she’s my aunt Sasha. She hugs me as tightly as Bear did.

“I need your help. I didn’t know where to look for you until I had found an old photo of my father and seen his patch on the picture,” I say, and he nods his head waiting for me to continue.

“Okay, what can I do for you after fifteen years?” he asks in a suspicious voice, narrowing his eyes a little bit.

This is it. I will just have to hope he can help me. I have never been more scared of an outcome than I am right now.

I lower my head and take off my sunglasses. My hair is covering my face. I blow out a breath and lift my head up to look him in the eyes.

I watch him go from happy, to confused, to downright angry when he sees my face. The sunglasses were big and hid most of my face from what is a terrible looking bruise.

“Who the fuck did this to you?” he says in a growl and, wow, this time he really does sound like a bear. I can’t help but take a step back from the anger that’s radiating off of him right now. His eyes soften a bit when he sees me move, but I can still feel the anger radiating off him and other people in the room.

“M-my f-fiance,” I say in a low voice. I lower
