still alive right? You stick with us and you could live to be twenty-one maybe even twenty-three? I don't want to get too cocky and be giving you numbers like thirty or thirty-five but we do a pretty good job of not dying.

Pete was pretty sure she was kidding but thought this might be just a little bit too soon for him to emotionally deal with anything else. The idea of getting those drugs and getting off this base was almost or probably definitely was the most important thing that he had ever been a part of in his young life. In his defense, he wasn't even old enough to drink, and on a side note was a very adventurous person, per se, before the zombie apocalypse had begun worldwide.

The group made their way across the second ladder, much more quickly this time, and definitely much more quietly than the original. When everyone was back on the rooftop together again, they assessed their options. The vast majority of them sucked. Kya was staring off into the distance. She seemed to be the only one thinking about the fact that with every building they went further away was going to be that much further back to their three door Humvee. She figured other people were probably thinking that and that mentioning it at this moment in time would have little positive to add to the circumstances. They, regardless, would still need to enter the building, find the drugs, get everything tucked away nice and neat and then at that point in time would be able to figure out what exactly they were thinking they would do to try and create some sort of diversion to outsmart the Turned. They didn't seem horrifically intelligent, but at the same time they had survived for quite a while as well.

Yassa said, “So is splitting up a good idea, still? I feel like we are having enough trouble keeping ourselves alive as a group. I mean, I’m sure that I’ll survive, but I don’t wanna have to tell Clary that everyone got killed. I don’t know if he’s going to care about a few of you getting killed, but I know he has a soft spot for a couple of you guys. I don’t know if he’s going to care about a few of you.”

Joe didn’t answer he said, “In hindsight, I would say that we should stick together. But if we don’t hurry up, I think that we aren’t going to be leaving this campus.”

Pete added, “Uh, we’ve been here since it started and we are still alive. Well, unlike you guys we haven’t been doing anything stupid...until we let you inside of the building. Then I decided it was a good idea to come here with you and I’m still deciding why.”

Ellie said, “Well, it has to be because of Yassa’s fantastic personality. He just really seems like if this wasn't a zombie apocalypse that he might have been on one of those dating shows where he had twenty women after him.”

Yassa smiled ear-to-ear and said, “Actually that sounds a lot like my previous life. But it was actual reality and not a stupid fake show.”

Joe checked the door to the roof, listening for a few minutes and shining a flashlight around, making sure nothing was headed up in their direction. Joe looked at his pre-decided group and said, “Kya, Jon, Brett, come on we're going to take this top floor and we can alternate one and then another. We can meet up on the ground floor. Once we get there, I guess it's probably time to make a plan to get back to the Humvee.”

Pete said, “I just have one question.”

Joe definitely couldn't say the kid was growing on him now that his head ached.

Pete asked, “Who am I supposed to go with?”

Before anyone could say anything, Joey walked over and put an arm around him and said proudly, “You probably better go with us, Pete. No offense to Mr. Joe, but I don't really know him all that well, and if you want to live, we are usually good people to hang around with.”

Kya looked to Ellie who was shrugging and said, “Well, why don't we just make it a group goal that everyone makes it back alive. I mean, how does that sound?”

Yassa was mumbling as he was the last through the door, mentioning something about how he just really wanted to make sure no zombies took a bite out of him.

Joe took the lead of the group of five. He hoped that Kya’s goal of everyone coming out of this okay was something that actually did happen. When they made it down the hallway a little further, Joe was shining the light left and right; no one daring to breathe or making noise. Joe saw a lot of microscopes in quite a few of the rooms that they were passing slowly. He definitely thought a sign advertising this was the science building would not be something necessary to figure out what the specialty of this building was.

Joe thought about grabbing one of the microscopes but it was not on his zombie shopping list. He hoped that that would not be something he might regret at a later date and time. When he lifted one up it wasn't like the crappy ones that he had to use to view things in high school that weighed a few pounds, this one had multiple power cords running into it and what looked like a HDMI cables which he could only assume would send whatever they were looking at to the giant flat-screen TV that was on the table beside them. He figured this had to be a private college, because no public ones would probably have anything as fancy, not that he could talk. He had mostly done the minimum needed to be a police officer
