“So, my queen. What do you plan to do with the rest of this week?” Oberon nuzzled the side of her neck as they lay in bed later that evening.
Takeout and cupcakes from Daphne’s had been consumed to celebrate them cracking the case. Daffi sighed and relaxed against her handsome fiancé’s chest, which was much easier to do without some deranged cult member trying to kill her.
She shrugged, sliding her fingers across his muscled forearm around her waist. “The museum directors offered me my job back in the wake of Whipsnide’s arrest but…”
She wrinkled her nose. She knew they were just trying to play nice and looking for the kudos of having a La Fay on staff. She wasn’t interested in being anyone’s poster girl. No way. No how.
“I thought about going home but…”
She’d spoken to her mom. Violet McGee had spilled the whole tale. Daffi wasn’t hers. She wasn’t a McGee, but a foundling they’d taken in and protected against the likes of the Order of the Hidden Butterknife. She smiled, the memory of her mom’s tears making her throat thicken. They loved her, she knew that, and her mom would always be her mom. But…
“I don’t think I fit in there anymore.” Not that she ever had. It was like shoving a tiger into the middle of a pack of tabby cats.

She smiled and turned over, resting her chin on his broad chest.
“I think I need to meet my sisters. Talk to them about finding our mother. Our real mother…”
Oberon leaned down and kissed her.
“Whatever you decide, my queen, I will be at your side. Will you say yes? Agree to be my wife.”
Daffi opened her eyes to look at him. She’d survived a killer, solved the case, and now she had her man. What more could a witch want?
She chuckled and nodded. “Someone once told me I always did have a problem saying no…”
