We practically crashed into one another, his lips devouring mine. I ran my hands up his arms, over the hard swell of his biceps. Without breaking the kiss, Adam lowered me to the floor in front of the fire. I wanted Adam and I wanted him now. I hoped it would always be like this for us. There were times, like now, when my body literally ached for this man. When we were together in this way, it was as if nothing else mattered. I prayed things would never change this aspect of our relationship. It was heady and intoxicating, and I could never get enough.
My yoga pants were tossed in one direction, Adam’s jeans in another. The rest of our clothes couldn’t come off fast enough. Adam trailed hot, wet kisses down my neck, before he’d even lifted my sweatshirt. But then it was off in a flash.
My breathing hitched when Adam’s lips descended over my collarbone, down to one of my breasts. His tongue swirled around the nipple, sending ripples of heat straight to my core. I glanced down so I could watch his sexy maneuvers. I loved watching Adam like this, his body over mine, hard muscles tensing as he worked me with his fingers, his mouth. “God, Adam, now,” I begged, ready…so, so ready.
With a glide of the head of his cock where I wanted him most, he whispered into my ear, “So wet, always so wet for me, baby.” He nudged at my core. “Is this what you want? Tell me you do.”
Unable to form a coherent word, I moaned in response. Adam chuckled a little. He knew the effect he had on me. Slowly he pushed into me. I threw back my head, closed my eyes. He withdrew slightly, but not all the way. When he stilled, I arched up to meet him. This teasing was torture.
Adam’s hands moved to my hips, held tight, halted my movement. “Maddy, my Maddy,” he purred, pushing into me the tiniest bit. “Tell me what you want. I need to hear you say it.”
Panting beneath him, wanting all of him, I breathed, “You. All of you.”
“You already have me,” he whispered so softly I barely heard. And then he thrust into me, filling and stretching. My hands snaked around his neck, my fingers found purchase in his hair. I pulled, and he groaned, withdrew slowly, entered again. His hand was fisted in my hair as well, and he tugged gently. “Look at me, Madeleine. Open your eyes.” I hadn’t even realized I’d closed them.
I opened my eyes and met his, so blue, so intense. I held his gaze while we slowly moved as one. But then the pace increased and I could no longer hold back. I let go.
My eyelids fluttered, and Adam’s hand, still wrapped in my hair, tightened. “Stay with me, baby,” he urged. And I did. I took everything Adam gave me, falling apart once again when he found his own release.
Afterward we lay, limbs entwined, next to the fire. Adam shifted his arm beneath me and placed a tender kiss on the top of my head.
“What are you thinking,” I asked, when he sighed and rolled onto his back.
“Nothing really, it’s just…”
I propped myself up on my elbow and ran my hand along the light stubble on his jaw, then through the silkiness of his hair. I hummed a little bit, just happy. Adam’s eyes, the firelight casting shadows across their depths, met mine. “What?” I asked, my hand lingering in hair that curled just a little at the nape of his neck. I loved that spot.
“Do you really know how much I love you, Madeleine?” His voice sounded so sincere, so true. I felt my heart tighten in my chest.
“I do, Adam, I do,” I told him, stretching out on top of him and placing my hands gently on either side of his face. “And I love you, too…so, so much.”
His hands skimmed down my back. “It’s more than that though, Maddy. Like today, out in the woods…” Adam seemed to be trying to find the right words, and I knew whatever he was about to say, it would be something important, something real, something from his heart. “Do you remember how quiet it was?” he asked.
I nodded, and he continued, “I kept wishing I could fill that silence, show you something tangible. I wanted to make the wind roar to show you how much I love you. Melt the snow on the ground to show you the way I burn for you.”
A lump rose in my throat, because how could I hear words such as these and not be affected? I didn’t deserve this man, the things he said, or the way he made me feel. “Adam, I…I…” I had no words, no words at all.
He shushed me, placed a finger on my lips. “You don’t have to say anything. Just kiss me.”
Sometimes there was nothing left to say. Further words would only ruin the moment. Adam knew this, which was why I did as he asked. I kissed him, kissed him with everything I had, and then I showed him with my body just how much his words had touched me.

Much later, we heated eggnog, spiked it with brandy, and sprinkled it with nutmeg. Back in the living room, Adam added more logs to the fire. I plopped back down in the chair, curling my legs beneath me once more. After the fire was apparently to Adam’s liking, he headed over to his complicated-looking sound system and began sorting through a stack of CDs.
“Looking for something in particular?” I asked.
“I know I have a Christmas CD in here somewhere,” he
