But you did say you wouldn't be able to cope with a premie baby."

"I did and we can't. But we can cope with what is in front of us here. The baby seems to be fine. Its moving and the heart is beating steadily. We only need to worry about Stacey for now."

Doc fussed around tucking a blanket over her and the mirade of wires attached to various machines. "You can sit and talk to her if you want to. There is nothing else we can do for now. The nurses will set up a room for her and I'll pop in during the day. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you Morgan."

"Thanks Doc."

Morgan sat holding her hand until the orderlies came to wheel her to her own room. the machines came with them and once they had everything organized he pulled up a chair and sat beside the bed, his hand tight around hers.

When Doc came in a few hours later to check on her, she was still sleeping peacefully.

"No change worth worrying about yet. Blood pressure is almost back to normal." He looked at Morgan. "The last thing I need is you going down too. Go and grab a cup of coffee and a sandwich while I sit with her."

"No, I'm fine."

"I wasn't asking you, I was telling you. If you don't listen I will have you thrown out. I don't need another patient." He glared at Morgan refusing to look away.

"Fine, I'll be right back."

Doc grinned and sat down on the edge of the bed watching the machines beep and give out readings only a doctor could understand.

When he walked out the door he was accosted by Nigel, Jane and Sid. The older man was looking tired and grey.

"How is she." They all spoke at once and shot a heap of questions at him.

"She is fine apparently. The baby is fine. We just have to wait for her to wake up. Doc kicked me out for a coffee and something to eat. Want to join me?" He turned and followed the signs to the cafeteria and stood in line waiting for a caffeine hit. Three bodies lined up behind him.

"Four coffees thanks. And add a plate of toast or whatever you have going too." He paid and led the others over to a table by the window. He sat down, his body suddenly exhausted and weary. He closed his eyes and sighed loudly. A hand rubbed his back.

"She will wake up. Too stubborn not too," Sid said.

Nigel sniffed and Jane patted his arm. "Look we all know how strong she is and how determined Stacey can be." She made eye contact with Morgan. "This is your last chance. Don't stuff it up, alright?"

He was tempted to give back as good as he was getting before he realized these guys were her true family and only wanted the best for her. They were right giving him a serve, he deserved it.

He took a sip of coffee when his phone vibrated in his pocket. Pulling it out he looked at the screen before answering. "Bran, where are you?"

A man in a suit looking like he had just walked out of a fashion magazine appeared at the doorway. He looked into the cafe and honed in on the small group. Morgan stood up and cut off the call. Smiling he walked over and grabbed the man in a brotherly hug.

"I heard from Ted what went down. How is she?" Bran looked over at the group and raised an eyebrow before walking over and holding out his hand. "Hi, I'm Bran, Morgan's older and wiser brother. How do you do?" He shook with them all before turning back to Morgan to listen.

"She is unconscious but holding her own. It's a time thing according to Doc."

"Hmm, have you thought of taking her home to a decent hospital?"

"Yes and he said it wasn't necessary. There is nothing anyone can do. We just have to wait."

"Doc did say the baby was okay though, that was such a relief." Nigel waved his hand over his face, a sly grin curving his lips.

"Baby? Morgan I think you and I need to have a little brotherly talk."

"Look Bran, you can talk to these guys, they can tell you anything you want to know being Stacey's family. I am going to sit with the mother of my child and see if she will still have me when she wakes up."

He walked away listening to Nigel offering to get Bran a coffee and breakfast.

Doc was checking her pulse when he walked back into the room.

"Nothing new. I have to go and do rounds but I will call in later. Call me if you need to anything." He patted Morgan on the back and with a wry grin he left the room.

The room was quiet except for the beeping of the machines. Sinking down into the chair Morgan reached up and held Stacey's hand in his. Her color was returning and the warmth was coming back into her body. He stayed through the day, refusing to leave again.

Nigel sent him dinner and coffee which he left untouched on the table beside him. He watched and waited for her to wake up so he could plead his case with the only woman who wanted nothing from him.

Chapter 11

Pressure on her chest and stomach stirred her out of a deep sleep. Her hand traced the outline of her baby belly and she choked back a sob of relief. She was still alive but where was the question. Her eyelids wouldn't open and something was filling her nostrils making her panic. Lifting a hand she tried to swipe it over her face but someone reached out and stopped her.

"SShhh, you are safe. Stacey, my name is Bran. I'm Morgan's brother." The gentle voice soothed her and she forced herself to relax. "You are in hospital and safe. You have so much equipment around you and I can
