Her lips were dry, making it hard for her words to be understood when she tried. Lena licked them and tried again. Her voice came out rough and faltering. “I need this to happen faster.” So much faster please.
She felt more than saw the smile on his lips. His hands went down to the button on her black jeans, popping it expertly as his fingers brushed over her stomach sending shudders down to her core. Impatient now, she pushed the pants down with her panties and kicked them away to land across the room.
Adam’s mouth trailed down to her bra, his lip tracing the outline of her breast before the heat of him latched onto her nipple through the silk. At the same time, his fingers found the warm heat of her center. She opened for him, arching her hips in his direction. Her muscles clenched around his fingers, her thighs tight as she held him in place. The scream that tore from her throat was as foreign as the emotions rolling through her body with the most intense orgasm of her life.

Adam held her against his chest as her body slowed and her legs gave out on her. He stepped back to the bed and lay her down, smiling at the boneless way she collapsed against the sheets. His ego had just taken a huge boost and as soon as she was ready, he was going in for the second round.
Hours later she woke in his arms and had a small jolt of panic. He soothed her until she was wide awake and calm again.
“I have to go home.”
“Why? I want to sleep with you in my arms tonight.” Adam smiled hoping she would change her mind.
“I don’t want Kyle to wake up and not find me there. Not yet anyway.”
Damn. “Fair enough.” He threw back the doona and slid from the bed. “Let me walk you home.”
“No, you don’t have to. It’s only next door.” Lena frowned when he pulled on his pants. “Really, Adam. What can possibly go wrong from here to there?”
“I was brought up to walk a lady to her door. Stop arguing.” Besides, I haven’t told you about the phone call. If I do, you’re going to be way too nervous to walk on your own anyway.
“Okay, suit yourself then.”

Later that morning, Adam stood in Ben’s office.
“I’m not sure what’s going on here but I thought you should know since you’re involved in the case.” Ben passed over the sheet of paper inserted into a clear plastic sleeve. “I don’t like being threatened with violence if I refuse to drop a case. Makes me want to dig my toes in even further to get Simon free. The cut out words from a magazine pasted on plain paper sent a warning note to Adam’s brain. There had to be more to this than his father was telling him.
Now what? “When did this arrive?” He read the message and passed it back.
“This morning. I’ve already called the police and told them, but there’s not much that can be done.” He leaned back in his chair and sighed. “I’m assuming it has to do with Simon’s case. What I can’t understand is why it would surface now.”
Things were getting sticky. “There’s obviously more to this than either of us know. Talking of what we do know, there’s something I ought to tell you as well.” Adam sat down and looked across the desk. “Lena’s opening night. That telephone call I answered wasn’t someone looking for a table. It was a warning for her to shut down before something happened.”
Ben growled. “Why the hell didn’t you tell me then? I have the right to know, I’m her father.”
Adam held up his hands. “I know all that and I’m sorry. But I didn’t want to spoil the evening for anyone and then it kind of got pushed to one side until you showed me that.” He pointed at the note sitting on the desk between them.
“Does Lena know about this?”
Adam shook his head. “I couldn’t tell her. I was going to but it seemed mean to throw a damper on her happiness right now. The café is going great, and she’s got a reviewer she knows coming from Sydney tonight to interview her and rate the place. It’s a chance for her to get some free publicity and pump up her self-esteem. I figured it’s something she doesn’t really need right now.”
“You know she’ll never forgive you if you don’t tell her?”
“I’m more worried about this note, to be honest. I don’t understand why anyone would care. Simon never tried to involve anyone else, not even Sally in this. That’s if he was telling us the truth.”
“Do you think she could be back?” Ben picked up a pen and clicked it off and on as he watched Adam.
“I doubt it. I’m pretty sure she would be picked up at the airport if she was. My father might be getting old and up himself, but I sincerely doubt he would allow her back in the country without him knowing about it. Can’t let anything get past him, even on a bad day.” More’s the pity.
“Might be a good idea to have another chat to Simon. There could be something he’s not telling us. I might place a call today and go down on Monday. See what I can find out.” Ben made a note on his diary before glancing back at Adam. “I don’t want to see my daughter hurt anymore. And I don’t just mean by whoever it was that wants to see her shut down either. Understand me, Adam?”
“Perfectly, Ben. I think you know I won’t do anything to give you cause for alarm there. I like her a lot and Kyle’s a great kid,
